Finn has been doing well, eating like crazy, sleeping pretty well and occasionally fussing. His Meema has been here being a tremendous help making us food and bouncing and snuggling Finn. Today we went to the doctor for a regular check up. Finn weighs 8lbs. 0.9oz. and everything else is good. He still has a little sore from his diaper rash on his bottom so we will start putting some antibacterial ointment on it. We are venturing out of the house more for short walks or errands. We have also had many visitors and can't wait to introduce Finn to you soon if you haven't met him yet. 5/26/10 (5:43pm) Took Finn to the doctor today as Kate got worried about his diaper rash. Nothing serious, just mommy fretting. He's eating up a storm and spending some more time just hanging out instead of always eating or sleeping. He seems very curious. His hair keeps getting lighter and he's starting to look more like Kate and less like me. He's been sleeping in one of our two swings as he didn't seem to like the portable crib in the bedroom. Hopefully he'll get some time in the nursery crib so we can train him for sleep time. Kate and I are tired but hanging in there. Doug 5/23/10 (10:48am) We have had a very eventful couple of days. Friday was a day of firsts. We went for our first walk in the neighborhood and used the stroller for the first time. We are all please with how it handled on the uneven sidewalks of Mar Vista. Finn slept through the whole walk. In the evening Finn had his first bath (pictures coming soon) which he did not sleep through and didn't really enjoy. We've also had some visitors, neighbors and friends who are eager to meet little Finn, he has slept through most of these visits as well. Yesterday we had our first real outing... a trip to Abbot Kinney to see the silent auction preview for the Venice Art Walk and guess what? He slept through it. It was fun to be out on the town with the stroller and Finn got lots of attention from other art viewers. Seemingly the only time Finn doesn't sleep is at night. Doug and I are still managing to get a few hours in each night we are feeling a little weary. Kate
Breed Article: American Curl An article from the CFA Almanac about the history of the breed, with special attention to show history. http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/articles/acurl.html
Extractions: By Karen O'Brien Accidents happen. So do miracles. None have been so special or unique to the feline world as Mother Nature's gift in 1981, the American Curl. Still considered one of the newest breeds in the cat fancy, the American Curl continues to gain in popularity and numbers as evidenced by the most recent statistics published by CFA. For the calendar year 1995, 223 American Curls were registered with CFA, an increase of 23% over the 1994 totals, which resulted in the Curls being ranked 25th out of 37 recognized breeds - quite an accomplishment for a breed that had such austere beginnings just 15 years ago. In June 1981, the breed which is true to its name and its place in modern American culture was discovered in the suburban California community of Lakewood on the doorstep of some unsuspecting residents, Joe and Grace Ruga (Curlniques Cattery). Grace, in the throes of being seven months pregnant with their first child, remembers that she was "trying hard not to do anything" on the day that the first American Curls graced the Rugas' path. Joe returned from work that evening and spotted two six-month-old kittens outside his home. He approached Grace inside and remarked, "Did you see those kittens outside?" When Grace replied that she hadn't, Joe continued, "Well, they look skinny; don't feed 'em!"
