Hitting For The Cycle - Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple, and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitting_for_the_cycle

( Discuss Eric Davis hit for the cycle in 1989 In baseball , a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single , a double , a triple , and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that order is known as a natural cycle The feat is rare in Major League Baseball as it requires a game of no fewer than four hits, and the unusual combination of a home run, which requires a batter to hit for some power, and a triple, which requires a batter to have speed on the basepaths and a favorable fall of the ball. There are only two current major league teams that have not had a player hit for the cycle: the San Diego Padres and Florida Marlins . No player has ever hit for the cycle in a post-season game. The rarity of hitting for the cycle is reflected in the fact that of the ten players who have had 3,000 career hits and 300 career home runs, only four have ever hit for the cycle: Carl Yastrzemski Dave Winfield George Brett and Stan Musial Listed below are the 291 occurrences of players hitting for the cycle in Major League Baseball: Bold Player recorded a natural cycle (x) Number of cycles recorded to that point (if more than one) Inducted into the

Extractions: var tcdacmd="dt"; BY JESSE SPECTOR Thursday, March 31th 2005, 1:24AM ST. LOUIS CARDINALS LAST YEAR: 105-57, first place GOING, GOING, GONE: Kiko Calero (Athletics), Dan Haren (Athletics), Steve Kline (Orioles), Mike Matheny (Giants), Edgar Renteria (Red Sox), Woody Williams (Padres), Tony Womack (Yankees) FRESH BLOOD: Einar Diaz, David Eckstein, Mark Grudzielanek, Mark Mulder, Mike Myers THE BATS: The Cardinals were smart to let Renteria walk and replace him with Eckstein, one of the game's great pests at the top of the order. After him, the only thing missing from the Cardinals' hit parade is Snooky Lanson. Larry Walker is the best No. 2 hitter this side of Alex Rodriguez, followed by a few guys named Pujols, Rolen and Edmonds. They only combined for 122 homers and 358 RBI last year. Then there's Reggie Sanders and Grudzielanek. If Jason Marquis (21-for-72) is pitching, there's no break before returning to the top of the order. THE ARMS: The Cardinals needed an ace, and GM Walt Jocketty went out and got one in Mulder. The lefty had a miserable second half of last season, and hasn't won a game since Aug. 24, but his credentials as a frontline starter are unquestioned. The rest of the rotation is solid and Jason Isringhausen remains one of the best closers in the National League. UP-AND-COMER: John Gall turns 27 on Saturday, so his time is up as a prospect, but he's ready to contribute at the big league level after hitting .292 with 22 homers and 84 RBI last year at Triple-A Memphis. Primarily a first baseman in the minors, Gall has learned to play the outfield.
Extractions: Tangotiger Background If you are new to this project, you should read about it first The Preliminary Results Thank you to all those who participated! I've received almost 500 ballots (and am still accepting them until Opening Day). I thought it would be a little fun to look at some early returns. For this particular article, it will simply be various lists of the most similar fielders, as you fans see them. I've developed a program that identifies the most similar fielders, based on the results of the 7 characteristics that the fans evaluated. Notes To qualify for these lists, a player had to have at least 5 ballots for a category. 300 of the 499 players on the ballots qualified. The player who received the most number of ballots was Derek Jeter, with 58. I rejected 1.2% of the ballots (6 in all) for nonsensical selections. In one case, a fan marked all traits for all players as "1", meaning "poor". Some players, like Vladimir Guerrero, has no very similar players. His most similar is Raul Mondesi, and this player is marked with a "*". There are some players, like Jeremy Giambi, who does not even have somewhat of a similar player. You will find an empty entry for such players.
