Extractions: Arnott wins Cup for friend Click here for more on this story Posted: Sunday June 11, 2000 04:17 AM AP DALLAS (AP) Jason Arnott and Patrik Elias didn't just combine to win the Stanley Cup for the New Jersey Devils. They did it also for their fallen linemate, Petr Sykora. Arnott took a pass from Elias and snapped a shot past Ed Belfour at 8:20 of the second overtime on Saturday night to give the Devils a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars and their second Cup since 1995. Having the two combine for the game winner was so appropriate because Sykora wasn't there to see it. With 7:52 left in the first period, Sykora was crunched by Dallas defenseman Derian Hatcher after flipping a shot at Belfour, and he fell back to the ice on his back, his hands held out as if frozen. Trainers and doctors immediately came out to attend him as players from both teams watched with concern.

Extractions: var tcdacmd="dt"; By RALPH VACCHIANO DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Saturday, September 4th 1999, 1:13AM Devils center Jason Arnott will arrive at training camp on time today but he will not arrive content. His contract impasse may have been resolved, but his "issues" with the team have not. At least not all of them, said Wade Arnott, Jason's brother and agent. And until the biggest one - Jason's desire for increased playing time - is addressed, his future with the organization is up in the air. "He wants an increased role," Wade Arnott said. "He thinks he's earned it." Jason Arnott rejuvenated his career last season with 27 goals and 54 points, solidifying his spot in the middle of the Devils' best line. But he apparently wasn't completely happy with many things about the organization - most notably his 15.25 minutes per game. He feels that number should be in the 20's, his brother said. Certainly he feels it should be higher than sixth among forwards on his own team. And he addressed that concern, among unspecified others, last month in a conference call with Devils GM Lou Lamoriello. "There were concerns and most of them came from Jason's side," Wade Arnott said. "He's concerned about where the Devils were going, how Jason and some of his teammates were being used and what kind of a role he'd have. These concerns had to be addressed. Some were. Some weren't."
