You must hold a bachelor's degree, complete a teacher preparation program or have 30 hours of education courses including eight practicum hours, pass the Professional and Subject Knowledge Secondary portions of the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment(AEPA), and pass a background check. If your subject area is not tested, you need 24 hours of subject related courses. You must complete Structured English Immersion (SEI) training and courses on the Arizona and US Constitutions. If you are certified elsewhere and move to Arizona, you will be issued a two-year provisional certificate. You must have passed a comparable Professional Knowledge and Subject Area Secondary exam from another state. If this was taken more than seven years ago you must also show five years of full-time teaching experience. However, if you are National Board Certified, this will replace the two exam qualifications. You must complete three semester hours in Structured English Immersion (SEI) training.
