The terms "Cambodia" and the alternative English transliteration "Kampuchea" refer to the modern Southeast Asian state located between Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, while "Khmer" is used to denote the language, culture, and nation of the people who are ruled by that state. The territory of modern Cambodia can be thought of as a shallow saucer with a broken rim on the lower right or southeast side. More than ever, I realized this following year that all this concern to get my future right and plan out is the wrong approach, nothing needs to be set in stone. I could turn to several people for advice but I need to say that’s enough and start with him. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 Throughout my whole life, I have the guidance of my grandma and my mom. At an early age of 7 on Saturday, June 28, 1998, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord, and Saviour with the help of my mom during the Billy Graham Evangelistic Conference. Nixon, under intense pressure from congress and the public, was determined to withdraw all American forces from Vietnam with some degree of honor. A process called "Vietnamization" was in progress, which essentially meant giving most of the military equipment to the South Vietnamese and returning all of the real estate occupied by the Americans to them. Each base -except for Tan Son Nhut was in the process of closing. Tan Son Nhut would be the last to close and it was absorbing all of the bits and pieces left from disbanded units and it was hopelessly crowded. The mood of the Americans in Vietnam was low. They knew that winning was no longer an objective (if it ever was) and there was no incentive to venture outside the American bases and pick a fight with anyone. In III Corps, the 1st Calvary Division was still sending out patrols and still providing work for the Rash FACs. The 25th Infantry Division was less active and the Issue FACs were under-employed. At Ben Hoa , The Ranch Hand (Agent Orange) operation had been disbanded. The 3rd Tac Fighter Wing had traded its F-100s for A-37s and was gradually turning those over to the VNAF. The most active unit at Bien Hoa was the 19th TASS, which was still supporting O-2 and OV-10 FACs at 22 Forward Operating Locations throughout III Corps.

Extractions: Travel to Ratanakiri My friend Maria and I decided to go to Ratanakiri Province. Ratanakiri is a Province in eastern Cambodia where traditional people live as they did many years ago. The people are a mixed race of Khmer, Lao, Vietnamese, Chinese. It is very far from Phnom Penh. If you go directly to Ratanakiri, it takes about one day, but if you stop in Kratie, where you can see the Irrawaddy, it will take two days. In The Kratie Province This was my first time to see Mekong River, and these beautiful Provinces of Cambodia, so it was very interesting for me. We spent time along the river, and ate local foods which were not very expensive. It was cool and nice, and there were not many tourist. Early morning we took a van to Ratanakiri, which cost about $7.50 for one person. We left Kratie about 8:00am, and it took about six hours to arrive in Ratanakiri. The road is still very rough, and was under construction. On the way it was cool, and the view was very nice, with all the trees along the road, and everything was so green. It made us feel so good. Arriving Ratanakiri We arrived in Ratanakiri at about two o'clock in the afternoon, and it was very quiet and peaceful. The people are very friendly, there are not many tourists, and everything seemed to be very inexpensive. We found a guest house near Banlung Market, which was five dollars a night. We did not spend any time at the guesthouse after we checked in. because we wanted to spend our time sight seeing.
