Complete with all the modern facilities, it is able to produce its own electricity from wind and solar energy or from the stored hydrogen obtained through electrolysis during excess electricity production. ICHET has initiated a series of pilot projects aiming at raising public awareness of hydrogen energy technologies and developing locally the competences and skills required for their integrated implementation. ICHET is organizing workshops and seminars for the training of students, engineers and scientists willing to join the hydrogen energy drive and participate to the upcoming energy revolution. Extractions: This project will take natural gas from the grid and convert it to hydrogen and CO . The hydrogen power plant will generate approximately 400 MW of low-carbon electricity – this project alone would provide more than 5% of all Abu Dhabi’s current power generation capacity. Up to 1.7 million tonnes of CO per year will be transported to a producing oil field and used to replace natural gas that is currently being injected into the oil field to maintain pressure. This natural gas could then be used either domestically or for export. This process will release a significant amount of natural gas for Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates. The CO injected into the oil field will also enable previously unrecoverable oil to be produced. If this technology is widely deployed it could boost Abu Dhabi oil production anywhere between 1-3 billion barrels. As the oil is forced out, the CO will remain stored securely beneath the oil field's natural impervious seal.
