What's This? apple for teacher image by max blain from Fotolia.com Teaching is a rewarding profession. The State of Idaho requires teachers to fulfill general education requirements, teaching subject-specific requirements, standardized test scores and licensing requirements to receive a full teaching credential. These requirements are in keeping with the nationwide "highly qualified teacher" definitions as stated in the No Child Left Behind Act. Teachers in Idaho must complete a graduate teacher preparation course at an accredited university. This is a one-year, full-time program that teaches pedagogy and includes experience as a classroom assistant. Teachers who continue on to get a Master's degree in education are at a significant advantage in applying for jobs Elementary teachers must complete a requisite number of hours of elementary pedagogy classes, generally included within the scope of their teacher preparation work. To teach at the secondary level, a teacher must have adequate college coursework or job experience to demonstrate mastery of their subject. For example, a potential science teacher would need to have at least a college minor in a hard science or have spent several years working in a scientific job.
