Extractions: Home Fiction Non-Fiction ... Unstoppable Comments: Morning Glory is a film about morning people. I hate morning people. They’re chipper in the wee hours, charismatic go-getters by mid-day and tend to collapse just when I think things should be getting good. Morning Glory has the same problems. Comments: Darren Aronofsky’s films (which include Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler ) roil with striking, horrific imagery and raw performances. They’re movies that even movie buffs can’t watch frequently because they burrow between your ribs and clutch your heart. Comments: It’s these moments that comprise the film’s greater theme, that in his final (127) hours even the most confident loner regrets the people he leaves behind. Not calling his mother back is more than a guilt trip, it’s a genuine tragedy, and the fact that this lack of communication will prevent anybody from ever even finding his body is just the punchline to one of life’s most malicious jokes. But once I started it, I had to finish it. The King of Methlehem Mark Lindquist A very close look, fictionalized, of how Meth affects people, the way they do it and the overwhelming sense that there are not enough law enforcement to deal with this huge wave of drug dealers. And Meth is a BAD drug. Pretty good but the tweekers were more interesting than the main characters. Once Bitten, Twice Shy Jennifer Rardin Bringing in the New Year on a fun, fast, and completely bubblegum series! What fun though! I read through this and the second book in just a few days. Another One Bites The Dust Jennifer Rardin Again, a great fun romp through the land of demons, vampires, and other scary creatures. A nice bit of fun if you miss BtVS as much as I do! Love this series. Now I have to wait to get the other three. Dragonspell Donita K. Paul Apparently, and obviously, I raided the Sci Fi/Fantasy area of the library! A fantanstic book for anyone who loves dragons, wizards, and various assorted other things. Love it. Am on to reading the second book in the series! Dragonquest Donita K. Paul

Clive James Welcome to the updated Herbal Bookworm , now more focused on in-depth critical reviews of important herbal medicine texts with an emphasis on core principles of Western herbalism, both philosophical and clinical. The reviews are primarily intended for healthcare professionals lacking familiarity with the field of herbal medicine, as well as for students of herbal medicine, and of course any interested surfing reader. Multiple internet sources claim to offer "information" about medicinal herbs. Often these are obviously flawed or blatantly biased by commercial factors, while others claim to be authoritative simply because they mention "scientific" data and studies. Much published herbal "information", is compiled and presented by writers without qualifications or experience in herbal medicine, or even any kind of medicine at all, let alone knowledge of the plants themselves. They invariably violate the essential principles of the subject without even knowing it. Often however, there is a specific agenda, political, regulatory or ideological behind such efforts, which is not necessarily obvious to those unfamiliar with the terrain. Medicinal herbs are not the same as herbal medicine. Information about herbs per se, including much of the "science", even when compiled and presented intelligently (a rare enough event) and with the best of intentions (also rare) is intrinsically limited in practical terms by lack of any clinical context or understanding of the principles of botanical medicine. An analogy would be like thinking that a knowledge of needles enables one to understand or practice acupuncture.
