It should be a self-contained description of the proposed activity, and should include elements of the purpose and need, objectives, methods, and significance of the work. It should be understandable to a scientifically literate lay reader. Sections 2-3 combined must not exceed 10 pages, including all figures, maps, tables or other ancillary materials. Provide a detailed plan for your proposed work and use of the funds. Describe the major tasks to be accomplished and how these will be carried out. Justify the size and scope of the activity, including (if appropriate) a sampling strategy and explanations for the type and numbers of samples collected. Describe your experimental design (if applicable). Where appropriate, provide illustrations of special sampling gear or operations, a map or maps of activity locations. Include a detailed schedule for the proposed activities. Include a description of existing facilities, systems or equipment that will be available for the proposed activity. Finally, describe the administrative responsibilities for the project, the team composition (including names of key individuals) and the assignments of team members to the major tasks. Provide specific estimates of the time (in hours or days) that team members will work on the activity.

This will be accomplished through teaching the students to take an active role in their learning about shark conservation, anatomy, and history. It will teach them about sharks to help give them a better understanding of these creatures. *Key Words: conservation, life history and information, dissection, games Grade levels The scientific principles that the activity is founded on. This project is to educate students about sharks. More specifically, to give the students hands on activities where they can learn through personal experience. The incorporation of three activities allows students to learn: a)Shark anatomy and life history b)Shark conservation and facts about conservation c)The concequences of overfishing and a long gestation period for most sharks The activities are designed to encourage the students to think and ask questions in order to take an active role in learning new things. There are three different areas in this station. There is the shark background and dissection (optional), the shark conservation, and an outdoor game that demonstrates the depletion of sharks in the wild. Scientific principles include: biology, anatomy, ecology, and conservation.

Rachel is now in graduate school at Old Dominion University studying cephalopod physiology. The Stan Cobb Endowment was established by friends, family, students and colleagues upon Dr. Cobb's retirement in 2004. The kickoff for the Endowment was held on October 27th, 2006 during the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Marine Biology Program. An endowment committee, with membership consisting of Dr. Cobb and several URI marine biology alumni, has been established to provide guidance concerning the use of the Endowment . Cobb Endowment has begun to support experiential learning in marine biology. It will provide funding for independent research projects carried out by students under faculty supervision and may provide a cash reward for the best student project of the year in marine biology. It will also help in supplementing costs of longer field trips associated with formal courses, or research field trips organized by a faculty member. Within the context of experiential learning, it will also support community-building activities among Marine Biology students.
