The formula for funding Hunterdon Central Regional High School and the tax sharing among its member municipalities is strictly prescribed in the New Jersey Education Law. This is not determined by the School District. In New Jersey, Boards of Education have no taxing authority. The States philosophy is that each sending district funds their educational capital and operating expenses based on the property wealth of its member municipalities. In Hunterdon Centrals case, the States tax formula is based on the combined equalized property values and student enrollment in each of the School Districts member municipalities. How is the tax formula calculated?

Extractions: Save the MacLeod-Rice House at Croydon Hall The History Home Croydon Hall Academy MacLeod/Rice Families Woodrow Wilson Connection ... Contact Us The land that Croydon Hall sits on was originally part of the Burdge Farm, which dated back to the 18th century. Edward C. Burdge sold the land to the Highland Park Improvement Company in 1892. The company sold lots for summer homes for wealthy New York citizens, but due to the depression of 1893, many of the lots remained empty. In order to entice buyers, a golf course was added around some of the houses that had already been built, becoming what is today known as Beacon Hill County Club. MacLeod died in 1901, and his widow later married Melvin A. Rice who was president of MacLeod's company. Rice had the house remodeled, demolished the towers and built the impressive columned front porch. Known as Drynoch Farms, it was a gentleman's farm with 300 acres of corn, clover, potatoes, chickens, cows, and 24 employees.

Extractions: Thursday, May 6, 1999 WASHINGTON: UTU concerned about FRA SIP report on Conrail WASHINGTON The Federal Railroad Administration applauded safety integration efforts of CSX Corp. and Norfolk Southern Corp. before they take over Conrail Inc. In response, the United Transportation Union (UTU) restated its concern about training and staffing of crews at those carriers, the Journal of Commerce reported today. FRA Administrator Jolene Molitoris, in a report to the Surface Transportation Board, said that she is "confident that the deeply rooted and long planned SIP (safety integration plan) actions . . . will contribute significantly to a safe integration." CSX and NS will take control of Conrail on June 1. But the United Transportation Union raised some questions about the transition. "I hope the administrator's optimism is reflected by reality, because the spotlight will be shining brightly on this transaction," said Charles Little, the UTU's president. The FRA and the STB highlighted safety efforts during the Conrail acquisition process because of fatal accidents, staffing shortages and training problems in the wake of Union Pacific Railroad's 1996 merger with Southern Pacific Transportation Co.
