    Extractions: ed kretchmer for distributing flyers and running errands. i hope i covered all those that helped out! we will have exact numbers hopefully by next meeting as to how we did. we did not break even. i do think we lost less than i thought we were going to at the start of the show. vendor turnout was dismal. attendee turnout was dismal. a total of 4700 post cards were mailed to hams in the quad county area, a weeklong ad was run in both the herald and a spanish newspaper. the show received mediocre attendance from even its own club members despite the good reviews we got last year. we even had to go outside of the ham community for volunteers! the pretty smiling face you saw in the ticket booth isnt a ham and really has no interest in being a ham. she's a friend that came to help the cause.

    Extractions: You'll need to pass a written exam. RadioExam.org has practice exams which you can use to try out your readiness for the real FCC exams. There is no Morse Code (CW) requirement any more. The Technician license has not required CW since 1991. All CW tests were eliminated in the US in 2007 after international treaties were amended to allow countries to license their amateur radio operators for HF band privileges without CW exams. The US was not the first country to implement these changes - but just about everyone else who hadn't by then has done so now. You are still allowed to pursue CW yourself if you choose to. CW is now just another digital radio mode, the only one that can be encoded and decoded without a computer. Some just like it. Others recognize the technical advantage that CW is the last mode to go away when HF radio propagation is difficult, which is important for disaster communications. But reality says most choose not to do CW any more. It's up to you! All US Amateur Radio exams can now be attained just by passing written exams. You can practice for all three of those exams here at RadioExam.Org. We have the full FCC-published question pools in the practice exams on this site.
