Global Change Education includes nine classroom sessions and two Saturday field sessions. The classroom sessions will run on nine Wednesdays from February 28 to May 2 (no sessions on March 14 and April 18), from 4 to 6 :30 p.m. at the Coastal Institute Conference and Visitor Center on the URI Bay Campus in Narragansett. The 6-hour field sessions will be held on two consecutive Saturdays at coastal sites beginning on May 5 at 9 a.m. The course will cover a variety of topics, including world population, biodiversity, national legislation, and mitigation. Teachers will be introduced to the science issues relating to human impact on environmental systems as well as social, political, and economic systems that affect the environment. The instructor is Gail Scowcroft, Associate Director of Marine and Environmental Education in the URI Office of Marine Programs.
