Extractions: Die Leier – oder "Lyra", wie sie früher genannt wurde – ist eines der ältesten Saiteninstrumente, das wir kennen. Ihre Wurzeln reichen über 5000 Jahre bis in die babylonische Zeit zurück. Die "moderne Leier" hingegen ist ein sehr junges Instrument, gerade mal 84 Jahre alt. Durch die Kooperation des Musikers Edmund Pracht und des Künstlers W. Lothar Gärtner gelang es, dieses Instrument – "die moderne Leier" – im Jahre 1926 in einen neuen, weltoffenen Zeitgeist zu stellen. Diese "moderne" Leier wird in unserer Werkstatt seit 1980 in allen Größen und Tonumfängen hergestellt. Es gibt die Leier als Bassleier, Tenorleier Altleier Solo-Altleier ... kleine Sopranleier und Diskantleier. Diese Leiern werden zu Recht als “moderne Leiern“ bezeichnet, da sie sich deutlich von allen antiken Vorbildern unterscheiden. Unsere Leiern finden Verwendung in der allgemeinen Musik, der zeitgenössischen Musik, doch auch in der Musikpädagogik, Musiktherapie, Komposition und mehr. Gerne möchte ich Ihnen diese Instrumente hier vorstellen...

The sarod itself emerged in the nineteenth century and there are contesting claims to the form of the sarod as it is now, Keramatullah Khan, author of Najmat Niamat claims his father Niamatullah Khan is the creator, whereas other believe Gulam Bandegi Khan Bangash modified the Afghan rabab into the sarod. His son Ghulam Ali is mentioned as one of the first sarodiyas (sarod player). In the traditional sardo, there are six main strings, five of which are melody strings and are played by stopping. The sixth string is supplementary and can be played open or as a chikari string since it is tuned to Shadja. Two strings at the upper end are the true chikari (i.e. for rhythm and drone), while eleven to fifteen sympathetic (taraf) strings are situated below the main strings.
