Da die Sugar Glider bei einer regulären und kostengünstigen Bodeneinstreu einen sehr starken Geruch entwickeln, muss zum Beispiel innerhalb der Voliere mit teureren Einstreumitteln (Buche, Hanf) gearbeitet werden. Durch die tägliche Fütterung von Insekten, abwechlungsreichen und frischen Obstsorten sowie Nektar kommt jeden Monat je nach Anzahl der Gruppenmitglieder eine fast dreistellige Summe hinzu.
