Epithets are sometimes attached to a person's name, such as Richard the Lionheart or Alexander the Great . In contemporary usage, epithet often means an abusive or defamatory phrase. An analysis of morphological variation in the minor workers and major workers (soldiers) reveals that these species are more variable than previously thought. Nevertheless, morphological characteristics were uncovered that are consistently diagnostic for each species. What is a Plant? A Traditional View A. B. Plant character states C. Diversity - There are many kinds of plants including mosses, liverworts, hornworts and the tracheophytes. Tracheophytes are vascular plants, such as ferns, horsetails, flowering plants (= angiosperms) and conifers (=gymnosperms). A. Taxonomy The study of plant classification. Classification is putting objects into groups (such as the Linnean hierarchy below). Classification involves/requires naming (nomenclature), describing (assigning features to a taxon), and identifying (determining that an unknown element is identical to a known one) species. Another definition of taxonomy that I like is that taxonomy is the science of documenting biodiversity (Keogh, 1995). The term taxonomy was originally coined by Augustin Pyramus de Candolle in 1813 (Stuessy; 1990, 1994).

It has a wide host range and can cause damage to young fruits as well as mature ones. The lynx spider, Oxyopes lineatipes , (C.L. Koch) (Araneae, Oxyopidae) is a predator of B. correcta Lynx spiders inhabit weeds, and also a range of crops including rice, orchids, mungbean, sweet potato, okra, tangerine and pummelo. The taxonomy, biology and predation efficiency of lynx spider were studied. Predation efficiency was studied in the laboratory. The study had a CRD design, with nine treatments and 10 replications. The treatments differed according to the growth stage, sex and density of the spiders. One treatment had young male spiders at an early growth stage (6.5 mm in length), one had young females (7.5 mm in length). Other treatments had 1, 2 or 3 males, or 1, 2 or 3 females per box. Spiders in each treatment were put in a plastic box (15x 29 x 8.5 cm) with seven-day-old mungbean seedlings. They were provided with 10 fruit flies (
