Extractions: Doctrines The doctrines of the School of Hsun Tzu are a development of those of Confucius in the direction of naturalism and rationalism. They are concerned with human affairs rather than the spirits. Unlike the schools of Tzu Ssu and Mencius, which view Heaven as a personal power and the source of morality and social sanction, the School of Hsun Tzu, under the influence of Taoist metaphysics, equates Heaven with nature and cosmic change and, therefore, regards Heaven as unresponsive to human behaviour. Human beings should not react to what Heaven does, nor look for omens in nature portending good or evil; instead, they should make use of the laws of nature for their own ends. In contrast to Mencius' proposition that human nature derives from Heaven and, therefore, is innately good, the School of Hsun Tzu maintains that human beings are born with desires that, if not being guarded and restricted, would lead humans to conflict and strife, and that in this sense human nature is evil and his goodness is only from acquired training. However, somewhat in keeping with the School of Mencius, the school of Hsun Tzu holds that human beings have the ability to become good through following rituals and rules of propriety that have been designed by sages. But, unlike Mencius, who stressed the need to nourish the heart/mind, the School of Hsun Tzu emphasised accumulative learning, training, education, enforced by laws, music, rituals and the rules of propriety.

Extractions: If you stand by the stocks on Rivington Village Green with your back to the road, you will see this view of the Unitarian Chapel. On its notice board is the quotation 'Here let no man a stranger be' . This promises the welcome that the dedicated congregation offers to all who enter this ancient building of simple beauty in order to worship in the spirit of freedom, reason and tolerance which characterises the Unitarian Tradition. We do not necessarily all have the same beliefs; nor do we claim to have the monopoly of Divine Truth. We are here to answer the individual's spiritual needs, to make spiritual journeys and to better enjoy life. Though the historic congregation dates from its separation in 1667 from the Parish church, the chapel was built of local stone in 1703 and has a small bell-cote. Its historical importance is recognised by English Heritage who played an important part in 1990 in the restoration of its interior which contains the original box pews, oak beams and a stone memorial to Lord Willoughby one of its founders (who saw action in the Civil War). The descendants of George Brownlow, another founder, held a service in 17th century costume recently, The chapel hosts visits from historical societies as it has several local historians amongst its members. A plaque by the yew tree indicates a link with poet Walt Whitman. Worship here has many traditional Christian aspects but also draws on material from a variety of world religions and literatures. The chapel's picturesque setting makes it an attractive place for Rites of Passage especially for weddings of which there have been over 100 in the last nine years sometimes involving different nationalities. Behind the chapel is its walled Garden of Rest with a special Physic Garden growing the kinds of medicinal herbs used in the 17th century. It is popular not only with photographers but also with walkers or cyclists who stay for a moment's meditation.

Extractions: The Ohio State University Pagan Student Association The Pagan Student Association (or PSA) is a non-profit organization of Ohio State University undergraduate and graduate students who meet in order to discuss various Pagan religions, other world religions, and issues affecting the local, national and global Pagan community in an open and academic setting. The official purpose of the Pagan Student Association is: "To provide pagan students and students interested in alternative religions a forum for discussing and learning as well as a social atmosphere." The members of PSA include students from various Pagan paths as well as students of other religions. The only requirement for membership is an open mind. Because of our diverse backgrounds, we form a stronger group since each student brings his or her own unique skills and knowledge to share with the group. Although we do have the pleasure of having speakers from the local Pagan community give presentations and workshops, most of the teaching in PSA is done by the members. PSA holds weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. in the Ohio Union in Buckeye Suite AB. Typical weekly meetings include a wide range of topics from "Coming out of the Broom-closet" discussions, meditation workshops, and workshops on divination (Tarot cards, Runes, etc.). In addition to these weekly meetings, PSA holds several celebrations to coincide with Pagan holidays. These celebrations include music, dancing, food, story-telling, plays, simple meditations, and just plain fun.
