Henry Award Inez Haynes Irwin (1873-1970) was an American feminist author, journalist, member of the National Women's Party , and president of the Authors Guild Many of her works were published under her former name Inez Haynes Gillmore . She wrote over 40 books and was active in the suffragist movement in the early 1900s. Irwin was a "rebellious and daring woman", but referred to herself as "the most timid of created beings". She died at the age of 97. Irwin was a close friend of the American feminist writer Mary MacLane , who included a colorful personality portrait of Irwin in her newspaper articles in the Butte, Montana newspapers in 1910. Inez Haynes was born on March 2, 1873 in Rio de Janeiro Brazil to Gideon Haynes and Emma Jane Hopkins Haynes.

Books Abramson, Jill and Barbara Franklin Garden City, N.Y.: Doubleday, 1986, 323 p. This is a study of the 71 women in the Harvard Law School class of 1974 by two staff reporters for The American Lawyer. The book includes a statistical profile for each woman in this class and offers a snapshot of their lives a decade after law school. These women are not considered pioneers but they are seen, by the authors, as being "in the vanguard of" a revolution, a revolution spurred on by the burgeoning women's movement as these women, just 12% of the first year class, sought to enter a challenging profession at a "most challenging proving ground."
