All are welcome to join and to post here, but I'll manage this group in "moderated" style, filtering messages before they go out to the whole group, to control the volume of the messages and to make sure that they are on-topic. Tips and information that would be helpful to people you have plain text books on CD are welcome including examples of how you are using yours, suggestions for improvement, suggestions for future CDs, and useful/interesting texts found on the Web that should be included in future CDs. Press Releases - 2007 - Kismet By Bita Fayyazi Installed At Fabrica language by a diffident English writer Edward Fitzgerald (180983) through his translation of Omar Khayyam's Rubaiyat stanza (Book of quatrain verses by Omar Khayyam, 11th century http://press.benettongroup.com/ben_en/releases/2007-02-13/
Extractions: Artist's Comment I have been making sculptures of babies for some 7 years... Returning from an exhibition in Denmark I had stepped into an airport book shop. Browsing through a book of photography on the Bosnian war, one particular image caught my attention: a tragic black and white picture depicting the burial preparation of a small baby which had been shot dead, the bullet having engraved a black hole through it's chest. I don't unfortunately recall the photographer's name, but that haunting image has stayed with me ever since. We are surrounded with images and accounts of children being wounded, murdered, killed in wars, abused, used in hard labour,... With Kismet the whole idea started with a proposal I submitted to the selection committee for the 51st International Venice Biennale in 2005.
Extractions: Up North and Off the Grid Astrology By Robin Armstrong May 2006 Kim Elkington by Kim Elkington I remember my first visit to Stonehenge at age nine: the power of the stones themselves, the open landscape, and feeling the ancient rituals that hung in the air like they had taken place yesterday. Part of the magic, I understand in retrospect, was that we were there alone. There were no fences or lines of tourists. Just the sun, lying on the stones, and me. Opportunities to interact, at a very personal level, with sacred sites around the world are increasingly impossible. This summer presents a unique opportunity to gather with other like-minded moon-lovers in Callanish on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland for what is referred to as the Major Lunar Standstill.
