Merseburg, 1862-1941, Querfurt), was at school in Magdeburg and studied at Halle and Berlin universities. He formed a close friendship with A. Holz , and the two collaborated in the pioneering sketches Papa Hamlet (1889) and the drama Die Familie Selicke (1890). Holz and Schlaf, however, soon fell out, and the drama Meister Oelze (1892) was exclusively Schlaf's work. The idyllic sketches In Dingsda (1892) are the beginning of an impressionistic and ultimately mystical trend in Schlaf's work. After a period of mental illness he settled in Weimar in 1904. Shortly before the 1939-45 War he returned to Querfurt, where he spent the last four years of his life. Later works include Novellen ( Sommertod Der Tod des Antichrist Frühlingsblumen Die Nonne , 1905), novels ( Das dritte Reich Peter Boies Freite Der Kleine Der Prinz Am toten Punkt Aufstieg , 1910), and plays ( Gertrud Der Weigand , 1906). Towards the end of his life Schlaf's mystical tendencies took a political turn towards National Socialism.

Extractions: aus Wikipedia, der freien Enzyklopädie Wechseln zu: Navigation Suche Johannes Schlaf 21. Juni in Querfurt 2.
