Boucher,Francois born 1703 - died 1770 Francois ,Boucher born 1703 - died 1770 BOUCHER, FRANCOIS (1703-1770) , French painter, was born in Paris, and at first was employed by Jean Fran?ois Cars (1670-1739), the engraver, father of the engraver Laurent Cars (1699-1771), to make designs and illustrations for books. In 1727, however, he went to Italy, and at Rome became well known as a painter. He returned to Paris in 1731 and soon became a favourite in society. His picture Rinaldo and Armida (1734) is now in the Louvre. He was made inspector of the Gobelins factory in 1755 and court painter in 1765, and was employed by Madame de Pompadour both to paint her portrait and to execute various decorative works. He died in 1770. His Watteau-like style and graceful voluptuousness gave him the title of the Anacreon of painting, but his repute declined until recent years. The Wallace collection, at Hertford House, has some of his finest pictures, outside the Louvre. His etchings were also numerous and masterly.

Boucher Francois (1703-1770) - French artist.
His first lessons of colouring he was given by F. Lemuan. In 1726-1731 he visited Italy. All these years were completely devoted to figure, copying and engraving which was given easiness to its talent. During all life he did not cease his illustration work. An election to the Academy (1734) opened for Bush a long official career of the professor (1737), director of the Academy and "the premier kings artist" (1765). Numerous works for theatre and operas have provided to it glory of the largest stage designer of all times. Since 1739 he used basically gallant and allegorical plots. In the hymn to female beauty a new canon of juicy charm has been created by him. Bush was the landscape writer with a lot of imagination. Its creativity personifies encyclopedic spirit of an epoch. Jump to: navigation search Boucher, François (1703-1770). French Painter. François Boucher produced the most characteristic art of the Rococo style and defined the art of the reign of King Louis XV. As the official painter of the King, he was also closely affiliated with the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. He contributed to the spread of the Rococo style throughout the European aristocracy, who looked upon this style as a reflection of the French court and the epitome of aesthetic refinement. This prolific artist worked in many media and had such dexterity in paint application, he was able to retain the fresh appearance of an original sketch in his finished works. Boucher was regarded as the best representative of French taste. Boucher was a Parisian born into a poor family. At the age of seventeen, his talent attracted the attention of a prestigious member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, the government sponsored institution for the instruction of artists and the perpetuation of the officially sanctioned style. With this influential connection, Boucher was allowed to exhibit in the Royal Academy by 1723. In 1731, after returning from Italy, he worked on perfecting his history paintings with the intent of gaining membership into the Royal Academy and which was achieved by 1734. This marked the beginning of a period of professional and financial success and within one year, he received a commission from the King, which encouraged other aristocrats to seek his work. Most of the paintings produced during this period were portraits and decorations for palace walls representing ancient mythology and genre scenes, the depiction of ordinary people in everyday life.

Boucher, Franois
Boucher, Franois (1703-1770), French painter, noted for his pastoral and mythological scenes, whose work embodies the frivolity and sensuousness of the rococo style. Boucher, the son of a designer of lace, was born in Paris. He studied with the painter Franois Le Moyne but was most influenced by the delicate style of his contemporary Antoine Watteau . In 1723 Boucher won the Prix de Rome; he studied in Rome from 1727 to 1731. After his return to France, he created hundreds of paintings, decorative boudoir panels, tapestry designs, theater designs, and book illustrations. He became a faculty member of the Royal Academy in 1734. He designed for the Beauvais tapestry works and in 1755 became director of the Gobelins tapestries. In 1765 he was made first painter to the king, director of the Royal Academy, and designer for the Royal Porcelain Works. His success was encouraged by his patron, Marquise de Pompadour, mistress to Louis XV. He painted her portrait several times. Boucher's delicate, lighthearted depictions of classical divinities and well-dressed French shepherdesses delighted the public, who considered him the most fashionable painter of his day. Examples of his work are the paintings

Biography:

Son of an artist, Francois Boucher learned many techniques as a child before receiving his formal art education from Francois Lemoyne. His initial job was as an engraver, producing replicas of Watteaus drawings. However, he also was a successful painter and one the Prix de Rome in 1723. He then studied throughout Italy and began receiving royal commissions and a position as court artist. Boucher also worked for high profile, Madame de Pompadour, creating portraits and decorating her palace. Because Boucher was primarily painting for others, his work was consistently focused on pleasant, mythological subject matters and scenic landscapes.
