Otto himself is introduced in a subsection, "The Object and Vocabulary of Mysticism Experience" [p. 311], under the heading, "Rudolf Otto's Idea of the Holy" [p. 312]. Edwards says that the "holy" is "a thing of fascinating mystery and terrifying magnitude," and that "when we speak of fascination and terror, we are speaking about the psychological response of the self that has the experience, but mystics insist that it is the object of experience that is holy..." Schily verteidigt Horst Mahler, der auf Grund seiner Kontakte zur Roten Armee Fraktion (RAF) vor Gericht steht. Schily lehnt das Schwurgericht wegen Befangenheit ab und beantragt, das Verfahren einzustellen. Im Stammheim-Prozess ist Schily als Vertrauensanwalt von Gudrun Ensslin Eintritt in die Partei Petra Kelly und Marieluise Beck-Oberdorf (geb. 1952) Mitglied des "Sprecherrates" der Grünen Bundestagsfraktion. Infolge der Ämterrotation verzichten die drei 1984 auf eine weitere Kandidatur für den Sprecherrat. Schily gilt als "Realo" innerhalb der Grünen. So empfiehlt er seiner Partei für die Zeit nach der Bundestagswahl 1987 auf ein Bündnis mit der Sozialdemokratischen Partei Deutschlands (SPD) hinzuarbeiten.
