A Week of Kindness This is a graphic novel and artist's book by Max Ernst. It comprises images created by cutting up and re-organizing illustrations from Victorian encyclopedias and novels and it is a surrealistic masterpiece, full of strange images of naked women, creatures with bird heads, dragon wings in rooms that may have mirrors that reflect something else or simply flooded with water. It is divided in chapters that correspond to the days of the week and to the "seven capital elements".

Max Stirner
First published Thu Jun 27, 2002; substantive revision Fri Aug 4, 2006 Max Stirner (1806-56) is best known as the author of the idiosyncratic and provocative book entitled Der Einzige und sein Eigenthum (1844). Familiar in English as The Ego and Its Own (a more literal translation might be The Individual and his Property The Ego and Its Own is not easy to assess. However, Stirner's book can plausibly be claimed to have had a divisive impact on his left-Hegelian contemporaries, to have played a significant role in the intellectual development of Karl Marx (1818-1883), and to have influenced the tradition of individualist anarchism.

out of 4 Starring: Mel Gibson , Bruce Spence Director: George Miller Rated: R RunTime: 95 Minutes Release Date: May Genres: Action Sci-Fi/Fantasy Suspense Buy this DVD ... Half.com *Also starring: Vernon Wells, Emil Minty, Mike Preston, Virginia Hey, Kjell Nilsson Review by Dragan Antulov 4 stars out of 4 Another thing that turns THE ROAD WARRIOR into the triumph of creative filmmaking are the action scenes. The post-apocalyptic world is rather unspectacular by itself; but the brutal realities of such world - prospect of murder, rape, pillage, all presented in very naturalistic and often gory fashion - face the protagonists with the need to act fast in order to survive. So, the film is full of superbly edited, ingenious and suspenseful action scenes. One of the excellent examples is the final battle, breathtaking yet able to provide us with unexpected twists, black humour and even the scene that could match Hitchcock's PSYCHO with the shock value. And all that was done with small budget, without computer graphics with small, but dedicated and talented band of stuntmen doing most of the work. Those scenes are extremely violent, but all that violence does make sense in the context of the story.

    Max Payne 2
Sean "Elysium" Sands - Mon, 10/20/2003 - 4:13pm Love Kills.... The first rule of fictional narrative is: thou shalt not make the life of your protagonist an easy one. Max Payne 2 takes this rule and applies it as gospel. The life of Max Payne is at no point an enviable one; a constant roller coaster ride of pill-popping, bullet-dodging heartache. Over the course of his story friends become enemies, and enemies pretty much go right on being enemies, and at some point everyone‚'s going to pull a gun on you. The only question is which ones actually pull the trigger? It‚'s a difficult question to answer, whether Max Payne is a game delivered through noir storytelling, or a noir story delivered through a video game. The distinction is actually an important one considering the different expectations between narrative and game are dramatic. For a traditional first person shooter we expect a passable story delivered through a fun game engine and packed into a time sinking experience that drowns away hours. For a narrative the focus of importance shifts away from the technical and the timely to issues of quality and response. Worse still, the answer to that question is not a concrete one. You can choose to play as you would any previous FPS, or you can choose to experience it for its narrative, and the choice you make is likely to make a significant difference in how much value you feel you‚'ve gotten.

See also: Dada and Surrealism Frederick Sommer's photographic portrait of Max Ernst at Masters of Photography Text from Werner Spies, introduction to " Max Ernst: A Retrospective "The scandals associated with the name of Max Ernst during the early post-war period have become legendary. They were sparked off by radical actions designed to to the utmost. Yet the artist's involvement in this type of activity was sporadic and temporary. He once explained why this was so during a visit he and I made in 1967 to the great Dada retrospective in Paris. Being a Dadaist by profession, he said, was a contradiction in terms. There was no such thing as an unchanging state of revolution. And to put the spirit of Dada on exhibition, he continued, was no more than a weak illustration, like trying to capture the violence of an explosion by presenting the shrapnel. "Behind this rejection one could sense a realization that the deep and intense despair that had triggered off the first post-war works had been rendered harmless to the point of cuteness by the subsequent, reverential appreciation of Dada. The artistic character now so matter-of-factly attributed to these works was by no means intended by Max Ernst and the other members of the Dada groups. This is indicated by the revolutionary, self-destructive elements that occur in so many of Ernst's texts. Not only do they pillory and abuse established society, their hate is equally directed inwards, expressing itself in self-abasement and a radical renunciation of humanistic values and of belief in utopias. After a phase of extreme disillusionment which, as all the texts in
