Warhol, Andy
“In the future,” said Andy Warhol, “everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes.” Somehow, he managed to make his own fifteen minutes of fame last for at least that many years, and the value of his art has only continued to rise since his death. He worked first as a commercial artist, and then, in 1963, he opened the Factory (first located on 47th St, later at 33 Union Square West) where he produced silk–screened “mass–production” art. His most notable early silk–screens include the series of Campbell’s Soup Cans (1962); later, he mass–produced images of celebrities like Elvis and Marilyn Monroe, along with thousands of self–portraits.

Warhol, Andy
Warhol, Andy Biography
American painter who was a leader of the pop art movement, which based artwork on images taken from mass, or popular, culture. Warhol is considered one of the most important American artists of the 20th century. His work and ideas both reflect and helped shape American mass media and popular culture.
Warhol was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and educated at Carnegie Institute of Technology. During the 1950s Warhol practiced commercial art in New York City. He attracted attention in the 1960s with exhibitions of pop art subjects from daily life, such as Campbell's Soup Can (1965, Leo Castelli Gallery, New York City) and Green Coca-Cola Bottles (1962, Whitney Museum, New York City), and of popular entertainers such as Marilyn Monroe. These images were silk-screened, a mechanical process that allowed them to be endlessly repeated (see Prints and Printmaking: Stencil Printing).

Meet the Fairchilds: Founders of "Factory Additions" Left: Nadia Fairchild/Right: John Fairchild Last month I reported on the suspicious documents that accompany works of art by "Pietro Psaier" being sold mostly at auction houses in the UK or through online sites like Ebay amidst claims that Psaier and Andy Warhol collaborated on "joint works" of art. A certificate of authenticity from "Factory Additions Inc."

Many of the "Psaier" paintings are stamped with "Factory Additions" or accompanied by certificates of authenticity as a "Factory Additions" print or painting. Factory Additions was the name of a company that Warhol started in 1966 to produce his prints. That company, however, ceased operating after 1974. In March 2001, a man named John Fairchild started a different company called "Factory Additions" in California, with "Peter Psaier" as its registered agent and Nadia Fairchild (John Fairchild's daughter) as the company secretary. Both John Fairchild and Nadia Fairchild have previously been convicted of art fraud in the U.K. In 1990 Fairchild escaped from an open prison, leaving Nadia in the dock to answer to the charges. Here is how it was reported in

The name Andy Warhol is synonymous with Pop Art. Clearly the most important and influential artist of the past quarter century, Warhol maintained a level of creativity already legendary before his untimely death in 1987. Starting out as a technically innovative commercial artist in the world of New York advertising, in the early 1960s Warhol began adapting the commercial process of silkscreening to the world of fine art and created iconic masterpieces such as Marilyn Monroe, Ads and Myths, among his most famous images. Warhol took ideas and images directly from the mass media, from the 1960s cultural revolution, television, movies, advertising, and photojournalism. Painter, graphic artist, manager of a rock band and filmmaker, Warhol had a huge influence on subsequent generations of artists. His original and graphic works are found in major museums worldwide, and today are more widely sought-after than ever before.
"In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes."
