YERKES OBSERVATORY
The University of Chicago
373 W. Geneva St, Williams Bay WI 53191 (Latitude 42 34.2, Longitude -88 33.4) The birthplace of modern astrophysics
Yerkes Observatory is a facility of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics of the University of Chicago . It was established in 1897 on Geneva Lake in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. Until the mid-1960's, Yerkes Observatory housed all of the Department's activities. Today the 77-acre, park-like site in southeast Wisconsin provides laboratory space and access to telescopes for research and instruction.
Yerkes Observatory occupies a unique niche for the education and the scientific community. It bridges several important perspectives in formal and informal education. The history of astronomy and astrophysics of the observatory is a solid foundation for introducing all the important topics in current research as well as the practice of observational astronomy. There is a huge range of opportunities for learning. Because of Yerkes' historical context, the world of professional and student astronomers and astronomy educators are drawn to the observatory. These communities learn from one another, build relationships, and create programs, which result in enriched experiences and learning opportunities for young and diverse members of our society.. Yerkes Observatory is open for free public tours every Saturday throughout the year (except on December 25, 2010 and January 1, 2011) and offers

43. Observatory At Wunkar In The Riverland Of South Australia
Introduction, the story, the facility, construction photos, general photos, map, and links.
http://www.malleesky.com/
Welcome to Adrian and Beth Reimann's web site where you will discover how an interest in Astronomy has led to the building of an Observatory on their Wunkar property 'Nnamier'. The Observatory was built to satisfy the passion of Adrian's to learn more about Astronomy and to share with others the beauty of the night sky. Their property is situated in the Riverland of South Australia, less than half an hours drive from the main town of Loxton. See the Location page. Visitors are welcome to the Observatory but an appointment is necessary. Phone anytime between 5pm and 7pm daily to make a reservation and find out if it is a suitable night for good viewing. Please note: We are closed during the months of June and July each year, due to the astronomy UNfriendly winter weather patterns. *Check out the Photo Gallery for some interesting photos Payment is in the form of a donation. Suggested donation $5.00 per person; children $2.00 or family $13.00. A cuppa is included. Majority of proceeds are given to local charities.

Height: 1128 m METEO LIVE The Observatory of Sormano is located in the Prealpi Lombarde at an altitude exceeding one thousand meters, at about 40 km north of Milan. The observatory of Sormano was dedicated in 1987. It was entirely built with the financial contribution of the partners of the Gruppo Astrofili Brianza (fifteen people altogether). Along the years it has oriented its instrumental evolution to the observation of Solar System minor bodies. The first astrometrical observations were performed photographically in January 1989 and had as subject the famous minor planet 1989 AC (4179) Toutatis , following in the years by the discovery of many new minor planets, as result of a research activity. Currently the activity includes follow-up of NEOs (Near Earth Objects) and computations (Sw developed at Sormano Observatory) of their MOID ( Minimum Orbital Intersection Distance ) and close approaches to the Earth of PHAs (Potential Hazard Asteroids) including asteroids with H > 22.0. linked at the

A new scope (left) from U. of Arkansas at Little Rock has been refitted, to provide a new generation of automated observations. The telescope is a redesigned Group 128, 24" classical cassegrain, currently configured at F10. The camera has taken over 180,000 images with the ATIS(automatic telescope instruction set). 'Click' to see what it takes to refit a scope like this. The new facility is in collaboration with the faculty and students from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville The University of Arkansas, Little Rock The Arkansas School for Mathematics and Science and the Arts, in Hot Springs Henderson State University , and Silver Schools, in Silver City, New Mexico.
The first generation automated scope was operational in 1991. The scope is at the NF/ Ranch has an automated 17.5 inch telescope housed in a movable dome(right). The telescope also used a ATIS file to make nightly observations. The observatory was linked to Silver City and the Internet, 30 miles away, with a digital radio link. This

    Las Brisas Observatory
    P.O Box 6069
    Colorado Springs, Colorado 80934
Email: w0rw1 at msn dot com "Keeping Teller County In The Dark."
The Las Brisas Observatory (LBO) is located in a dark protected area of the old spanish Las Brisas Ranch (Las Brisas means "The Breezes"). It is 11 miles west of Pikes Peak, Colorado, at an elevation of 8500 feet. The dark skies and high elevation gives us some of the most spectacular views of the heavens, however, the encroaching city lights and yard lights continue to degrade the view we have of our universe.
LBO was built in 1979 and has been in continuous operation since then. The observatory is equipped with a 14 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and an 8 inch Schmidt camera.
LBO is dedicated to the glory of GOD: "The firmament shows HIS handiwork", Psalm 19:1. "GOD said, let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens... let them be for signs...", Genesis 1:14. The signs of creation are still there today, look up at night, wise men still seek HIM. Romans 1:20-21 in the Bible, states that anyone who ignores the testimony of creation does so "without excuse" and when people turn away from GOD, their understanding is darkened. HIS love is written all across the sky; as brilliantly the stars all testify.

    Astronomical Tourism in Chile
The development of new types of tourism is a situation that has become very interesting in recent years in Chile. This has caused, and perhaps largely attracted by the variety, the arrival of thousands of foreign tourists coming from distant areas such as Europe, USA and even Australia.
In the Fourth Region of Chile is starting to develop the Astronomical Tourism, a type of tourism which can be labeled under the category of special interest because their particular style of tourism attracts all persons without regardless of age, sex or religion. Read more...
    Elqui Valley
The Elqui Valley is home to a mountain basin, located in the Region of Coquimbo, about 90 km from La Serena and 470 km north of Santiago, whose river (Elqui river) flows into the sea after traveling 140 km from the Andes mountains. Major tributaries of the Elqui River are the Claro and Turbio rivers. This valley is located one of the many dams that owns the region, the reservoir Puclaro, which is 432 meters in an area known as Angostura Puclaro. Has a capacity of 200 million cubic meters of water and 760 hectare.
