  • How to Visit the Chicago Planetarium Going to the Chicago Planetarium, known as the Adler Planetarium, can be great fun for space fans, astronomy buffs and everyone in between. It is an educational activity that the entire family can do together, or individually and it does not require a lot of time or money. This planetarium works well for all ages. San Jose, California is far from Egypt and seems an unlikely place to find a museum dedicated to ancient Egypt, but the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and Planetarium is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in the history of the Egyptians. What you will see there may surprise you, as you step out of the present and make a journey...

Ohio Planetariums Planetariums create an "artificial sky" that can simulate the appearance of the starry sky, a worthwhile alternative to stargazing during the day and on cloudy nights. Planetariums can be a great tool for learning many elements of astronomy, including the constellations, the geometry of the sky, and the cycles of the Sun, Moon and planets. Also, planetariums are always bringing out new shows, so there's no ends to the benefits of regularly attending your local planetarium. Use the following list to find the planetarium in your area, and to learn the times of shows and coming events. If your planetarium would like to update its listing, please send the changes to webmaster@wro.org

      Planetarium
With its domed ceiling, digital projectors, and realistic view of the moving heavens, planetariums bring the heavens to earth. The earliest planetariums were created in the early 13th century, yet there are records of primitive forms of planetariums dating back to antiquity. In fact, the oldest planetarium, the Eise Eisinga Planetarium is in Holland and was built in 1781. Amazingly, it is still in operation today. Planetariums are found worldwide and they are extremely vital teaching tools for explaining the heavens and how celestial objects work.
Planetariums bring together a realistic view of heavenly objects and combine theatrical effects and illusions to create dazzling shows. Though some planetariums focus on astronomy from an educational point of view, you may be amazed at how much entertainment is provided by your local planetarium. In the early 80's the first computerized planetarium was installed. Once this technology came into existence planetariums were able to create entertaining displays that featured any imagery they chose along with the celestial sky. In fact, many planetariums also feature IMAX films, the highest quality film there is. Planetariums have helped bring the universe into the grasp of the common man.
      The Date Activity
Visiting a planetarium is a great activity for a date. There is nothing more romantic then stargazing and planetariums provide you with a dark romantic setting full of stars, heavenly objects, and wonder. Not only is the environment perfect, but also most planetarium shows are educational as well as entertaining. You may also be amazed to find that your local planetarium offers laser shows as well. These laser shows are set to soundtracks, such as Pink Floyd's The Wall and are as enjoyable as attending a concert. However, make sure that your date likes loud rock music, and all the extras before choosing a Laser Show for your date experience. If rock music, lights, and fog are too much for your date, stick with a tour of the galaxies.

In recent years, every fourth and sixth grade class in our school district has the opportunity to experience the excitement of astronomy through an instructional field trip to one of our planetariums. Beginning in the fall of 2009, the FCPS planetariums are on hiatus due to budget constraints. Although FCPS is no longer providing funding for field trips, most of our facilities continue to be used for high school instruction. Some planetarium/astronomy teachers may be able to provide presentations on a limited basis. Please contact the planetarium closest to you for information. The Woodson Planetarium will present the Fall Sky at 2:30 on Monday, October 18 . Learn how to find Jupiter and other planets, the Big Dipper, the North Star, Summer Triangle and the Seven Sisters. Get the latest information on Comet Hartley and the Orionid meteor shower. All interested students, staff, family and friends are encouraged to come. Join us for Astronomy Night at Observatory Park on Friday, October 29!
