Biography
American football quarterback who led the San Francisco '49ers to a Super Bowl XIX championship on 1/20/1985. He is a natural athlete and began playing football at the age of eight. By his senior year in high school dozens of top football colleges were recruiting him, but his heart was set on Notre Dame, where he led the school to a national championship in 1977. In 1979 he started with the '49ers and, in 1981, led the team to a thrilling overtime win by completing an astonishing 24 of 26 passes. He wrote an autobiography entitled "Audibles-My Life In Football," along with Bob Raissman, in 1986. He finally retired from football on 4/18/1995 after playing for 16 years, (achieving the league's MVP twice, Super Bowl MVP award three times) and winning four Super Bowl rings. A second book "Joe Montana's Art and Magic of Quarterbacking" explains why preparation, humility and leadership skills will serve anyone well. A 6'2" blue-eyed blond, he was first married in 1981 to a stewardess, Cass Castillo, with whom he had been living since 1979. In 1985 he married a fashion model by the name of Jennifer with whom he had two girls and two boys. He and Jennifer did sexy underwear commercials together. By 1994 he was making $5 million a year.

Example of auction Montana, Joe Born in 1956 in Pennsylvania, Joe Montana was always an athletic success. As a child and teenager he played baseball and basketball, in addition to football. During college, which he attended at Norte Dame, Montana was skilled as a player but his coaches didn’t always realize that; in his first year, he was the seventh-string quarterback, and a couple years later, he was still only the third QB on the team’s depth list.
This role as a benched player didn't last once Montana went pro. He was drafted into the NFL by the San Francisco 49ers in 1979. Throughout fifteen seasons, Montana played with the 49ers and with the Kansas City Chiefs, before retiring from professional football in 1994. During this extensive career, “Joe Cool” received countless awards and laudations, including twice being selected as the NFL’s Most Valuable Player, eight times being chosen for the Pro Bowl, and leading his team to victory at the Super Bowl four times; three of those led to him being named the Super Bowl MVP. Rising from a humble beginning, Montana became a football legend. Montana was comeback king
By Larry Schwartz

Special to ESPN.com
There's an old cartoon that shows everybody panicking, except for one guy, who is unruffled as he does his assigned task. In real life, that person is Joe Montana. Joe Montana was MVP in three of his four Super Bowls, and led his team on The Drive in the other. He possessed an almost mystical calmness in the midst of chaos, especially with the game on the line in the fourth quarter. While others saw turmoil and danger after the snap, Montana saw order and opportunity. He was Joe Cool, the unflappable king of the comeback. Take the 1989 Super Bowl against the Cincinnati Bengals. The San Francisco 49ers were down by three points with 3:20 left when Montana spotted no, not an open receiver but a personality. "There, in the stands, standing near the exit ramp," Montana said to tackle Harris Barton. "Isn't that John Candy?" And then he led the 49ers 92 yards, throwing for the winning touchdown with 34 seconds left. This was one of Montana's 31 fourth-quarters comeback in the NFL.

01/29/2001 - Updated 02:05 PM ET Joe Montana scores against high cholesterol By John Morgan, Spotlight Health
With medical adviser Stephen A. Shoop, M.D.
AP file Joe Montana says his cholesterol numbers took him by surprise. When the game is on the line with Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana, you expect to win. But even the most die-hard football fans never expected the 44-year-old miracle worker to rack up numbers like he did en route to a nearly perfect season this year. Especially since Montana is retired. But on or off the field, being a part of a winning team seems to be Montana's birthright. Read more On the Web "This season over 78,000 people participated in our online quiz about heart disease risk, and we donated 10,000 free cholesterol screenings," Montana says. "Those are some pretty big numbers. I'm very proud of this team." Says Parcells, who recently resigned from the New York Jets organization: "This is absolutely a winning team. We're on our way, but we're not in the Super Bowl yet. Seventy-eight thousand people is about one sold-out stadium. Seven of those — about half a million — die every year of heart disease."
