His brother Alan also pitched in the Major Leagues, and was his teammate in 1996-97 and 2000-01. Biography
American pro baseball pitcher who has played for three teams in his professional career. After attending the local college in Evansville, Benes was selected by the San Diego Padres in the first round pick as a free-agent 6/01/1988, playing until suspended from play, 9/23/1993, for the remainder of the season. Traded by the Padres, 9/16/1995, he was acquired by the Seattle Mariners; granted free agency 10/31/1995 and signed with the St. Louis Cardinals 12/23/1995. Banks was placed on the disabled list 3/23 thru 4/28/1997 and released as a free agent 10/29/1997. At 6' 6", 245, he throws right and bats right. January 21, 1972 in Evansville, Indiana ), was a Major League Baseball pitcher who pitched for three teams over the course of eight seasons. Benes attended Creighton University where he was part of Creighton's NCAA College World Series appearance (1991) . He began his major league career in 1995, pitching in three games for the St. Louis Cardinals . His highlight years included the and seasons with the Cardinals, when he won a combined 22 games and struck out 291 batters over 353 innings. His performance during the 1996 season helped the Cardinals reach the playoffs for the first time since 1987. During the 1996 post-season, Alan posted an 0-1 record with an 2.84 ERA. Alan sat out the majority of the and seasons with an arm injury, which would never allow him to return to top form.
