Born: 12/25/25, St. Thomas, Pennsylvania. Died: 12/1/75.
  • American League M.V.P in 1959, the last pennant-winning team in Chicago's baseball history. Batted .300 or better six times in the the 1950's. Led the league in hits four times. Led the league in fewest strike outs eleven times. Three gold gloves. Twelve all-star appearances. Defensive triple crown winner in 1952, 1956, and 1959. (led league in fielding percentage, putouts, and assists in the same season). Along with Luis Aparicio, formed the tight defensive keystone combo critical for the club's success. The living embodiment of the aggressive running and hitting, and the flawless defense of the great Sox teams of the Go-Go Fifties, affectionately known by legions of Sox fans as "Li'l Nell". Inducted into the Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame in 1997.
