    Justice Medina, a former Harris County state district judge, succeeded Wallace B. Jefferson in Place 4 after Jefferson's appointment to be chief justice. Gov. Rick Perry appointed Justice Medina, who was the governor's general counsel since January 2004. Before that, he was associate general counsel for Cooper Industries Inc. in Houston and served on the Harris County bench in 1996-2000 after appointment in May 1996 by then-Gov. George W. Bush. He was elected in November 1996 and again in November 1998. Justice Medina was born on Galveston Island, attended public schools in Hitchcock and graduated with a bachelor science degree from Southwest Texas State University in 1980 (now Texas State University-San Marcos). In college he competed on the university's karate and baseball teams and was on the Dean's List. In 1989 he earned his law degree from South Texas College of Law. He was on the Dean's List and a member of the American Bar Association Regional Moot Court National Championship Team. He joined Cooper Industries in 1987 and was promoted to litigation counsel upon his graduation from law school. Governor Bush appointed him to the 157th State District Court. The Houston Bar Association voted him as one of the top jurists in Harris County.

    Justice David T. Prosser Jr.
    Justice David T. Prosser Jr. was appointed to the Supreme Court by Gov. Tommy G. Thompson in 1998, and elected to a 10-year term in 2001. Born in Chicago, Justice Prosser was raised in Appleton, Wis., and received his bachelor's degree from DePauw University in 1965 and his law degree from the UW Law School in 1968. Before joining the court, Justice Prosser served on the Wisconsin Tax Appeals Commission where he conducted hearings and issued decisions on disputes related to Wisconsin taxation. Justice Prosser was appointed to the Tax Appeals Commission following an 18-year career in the Wisconsin Legislature where he represented the Appleton area in the Assembly from 1979 through 1996. During his tenure, he served six years as Assembly minority leader and two years as Assembly speaker. For 14 years, he was a legislative member of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. In 2005 he was reappointed to the Commission by Assembly Speaker John Gard and served until 2007. Prior to his election to the Assembly, Justice Prosser served as Outagamie County district attorney. He also worked in Washington, D.C., first as an attorney/advisor in the Office of Criminal Justice, U.S. Department of Justice, then as administrative assistant to U.S. Rep. Harold Froehlich, a member of the House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate impeachment inquiry. Justice Prosser served on the Supreme Court Planning and Policy Advisory Committee's Court Financing Subcommittee (2002-04), Judicial COuncil of Wisconsin (2002-06), and currently serves on the Supreme Court Citation of Unpublished Opinions Committee (2009).

    New Hampshire People Justice David Souter David Hackett Souter is an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Though he was born in Melrose, Massachusetts, Souter grew up in the town of Weare, New Hampshire on his family's farm. He attended Concord High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College and graduated magna cum laude in 1961. He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He later attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar and received a Bachelor and a Master of Arts In Jurisprudence from the esteemed college. He completed his education at Harvard Law School. Souter worked at the law firm of Orr and Reno in Concord until 1968, the year he became Assistant Attorney General of the state of New Hampshire. In 1971 he became Deputy Attorney General, a position that was assigned to him by Warren Rudman, the Attorney General at the time. Souter succeeded Rudman as Attorney General in 1976. In 1978, he became an associate justice of the Superior Court of New Hampshire and was appointed by then-Governor John Sununu, to the New Hampshire Supreme Court as an associate justice in 1983. In 1990, Justice Souter became a Judge of the United States Court of Appeals, 1st Circuit. Within a few months of his appointment, he was nominated to become an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court by then-President George H.W. Bush. He took his seat on the court on October 9, 1990, followed by a landslide confirmation vote of 90 to 9 by the Senate Judiciary Committee. He was dubbed "the stealth justice" by the media for provoking little controversy during the confirmation process.
