Hideo Nomo Biography
Baseball Player
Nomo was the second Japanese native to pitch in the American major leagues, and the first to play most of his career there. His 1995 debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers was closely watched by fans in the U.S. and Japan. He was named the National League Rookie of the Year in 1995, and threw a no-hitter against the Colorado Rockies on 17 September 1996. Nomo also grew famous for his unorthodox "tornado" delivery, twisting his body around with hands held high before each pitch. On 4 April 2001 he threw another no-hitter, this time while with the Boston Red Sox. The feat made him only the fourth pitcher to throw a no-hitter in both the American and National leagues; the others were Cy Young, Jim Bunning and Nolan Ryan. Nomo returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers for the 2002-2004 seasons, then played for Tampa Bay (2005) and, in a brief comeback, Kansas City (2008). He retired on 17 July 2008. Extra credit : Nomo won a silver medal in 1988 as part of the Japanese Olympic baseball squad... He played for the Kintetsu Buffaloes of the Japanese major leagues from 1990-94... The first native Japanese to pitch in the American major leagues was Masanori Murakami, who played for the San Francisco Giants in 1964-65.

Cartridge World Series Baseball '95 is a Major League Baseball video game by Sega that allows players to put teams involved in the 1994 Major League Baseball season in either exhibition, regular season, or playoff mode. In addition to this, the player can also create two customized teams with their choice of their favorite players (no luxury taxes unlike the modern baseball games). At the conclusion of the regular season, players are recognized as MVP, Cy Young, Triple Crown, etc based on their regular season statistics. In Japan, this game is sponsored by Hideo Nomo and is called Nomo's World Series Baseball in English and Nomo Hideo no World Series Baseball in Japanese. The players are asked how many innings they want to play and if they need a designated hitter prior to starting the game among other options like an optional digitized voice (for all the umpire's decisions) and the way that the game is viewed (front or back).

Box Score of No-Hitter by Hideo Nomo
Hideo Nomo became the seventh Los Angeles Dodger to throw a no-hitter and the first pitcher to throw a gem in the unfriendly confines of Coors Field. This particular gem, which was the twentieth no-hitter of the Dodgers organization, was special not only because of the location, but also because it was thrown by a pitcher born in Japan and followed closely by his friends and family back home. "I cannot say it was impossible, but I never was concerned about that. This is a big accomplishment for the team, not just for me. The team comes first." - Hideo Nomo Hideo Nomo No-Hitter Boxscore
