George Harold Sisler (March 24, 1893 - March 26, 1973), nicknamed "Gorgeous George," was an American star left-handed first basemen in Major League Baseball (MLB). Ty Cobb called him "the nearest thing to a perfect ballplayer." Although his career ended in 1930, from 1920 until 2004, Sisler held the MLB record for most hits in a single season. He is also one of only three men (along with

* Indicates a posthumous award The president, in the name of Congress, has awarded more than 3,400 Medals of Honor since the decoration's creation in 1861. For years, the citations highlighting these acts of bravery and heroism resided in dusty archives and only sporadically were printed. The U.S. Senate ordered the citations compiled and printed in 1973, and later updated and reprinted in 1979. Listed here, duplicated from the congressional compilation, are the citations for the 20 members of Special Forces who were recipients of the Medal for actions in Vietnam and Somalia. Some minor misspelling and other errors are duplicated from the official government volume, in all probability the result of the original transcriptions. A complete listing of MOH citations can be found at the U.S. Army Center of Military History web site,
