A Daniel’s Antonio Cannon already had plans to go to Kentucky next week for a football camp. So the welcome mat figures to be more like a red carpet now. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound junior committed Friday to play football for the Wildcats, two hours after having his first major scholarship offer formally extended. “I just thought it was a good decision to go ahead and do it,” Cannon said. Kentucky began recruiting Cannon midway through last season through offensive coordinator Joker Phillips, who has mined the state since his one-year stint as USC’s receivers coach (2002). Phillips was promoted to coach when Rich Brooks retired, and Phillips wanted the new position coach, former Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin, to evaluate Cannon before an offer was authorized. Martin attended Daniel’s spring game Friday evening.
