These powerful pieces relate to an enormous installation titled "The Emancipation Approximation" that Walker installed at the 1999 Carnegie International. The suite of aquatint etchings in the show have a different feel than the silhouette works, and are akin to the small, illustrative and controversial watercolors from Walker's "Negress Notes."
