Born in Odessa USSR (now Ukraine ), she is widely known for her series of chess training videos, the "Krushing Attacks" series. Krush learned to play chess at age five, emigrating with her parents to Brooklyn that same year (1989). Krush attended Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn, which is considered by many to be one of the top high school chess teams in the USA. At age 14 Krush won the 1998 US Women's Chess Championship to become the youngest U.S. Women's Champion ever. She holds the title of International Master (IM), a Woman Grandmaster (WGM), and has one of three tournament results (norms) necessary to qualify for the International Grandmaster (GM) title. IRINA CRUSHED BY MARTHA by Sam Sloan
At the New York Open, held on April 5-7, 1996, it was no great surprise that there were two girls in the experts section, although that would have been a surprise not so many years ago. However, it was a surprise when both girls won both of their first two games.
Irina Krush, rated Chess Master
After that, in one of those fiendish computer created coincidences, they were paired against each other. (Again, only a few years ago, before there were computers, the diabolically minded tournament director would have done that on purpose.) Naturally, a lot of interest developed in this game and a big crowd gathered. I am sorry to say, however, that it was just a krush. Irina simply let Martha, 18, have too much in an early stage of the game, and Martha just rolled her up, or blew her off the board or however you want to put it. But, cheer up! Irina is only 12 years old, and, with a USCF rating of 2110, there is still some hope left for her. As for Martha, her story did not have a happy ending either. She remained near the lead until the last round. Then, in the last round, with the first prize of $8,000 at stake (by the way, that is Eight Thousand Dollars, this is not a typo) Martha was paired against Justin Sarkar, another student of her own chess teacher. (Ever wonder how these little kids get to be so good? They all have chess teachers!) Martha and the little boy she had to face in the last round are both trained by International Master Rafael Klovsky, whereas Irina is trained by Michael Trosman. (Don't try to look up these names in the rating list, because I don't believe that you will find them. You will just never guess where all of these professional chess trainers come from.)

World News Reaction to Kasparov vs. World Game Chess News Kasparov-World Game July 31, 1999 FIDE World Championship
  • October 18, 1999. ChessLab.com. Kasparov vs. World match wraps up with a horrible fiasco with Microsoft losing a move suggestion by I. Krush (?). Reuters, Yahoo, world wide media now hot on the story, fraud charged. Jude Acers/ChessLab believes that Kasparov's victory was richly earned he hung in the there grimly, kept the game alive period. The World's move 58...Qe4 suggested by E. Bacrot was listed as losing in all variations given on October 10-th by FIDE champion Khalifman and Grandmaster Chess School. It appeared full one week before the World was led astray by French grandmaster and national champion E. Bacrot. Bacrot's suggestion lost outright immediately at 2:04 AM EST Friday October 15, 1999. October 20, 1999 http://www.gmchess.spb.ru/english/kasworld/sici119.html "GM Chess School gives NO recommendations to the world, as our opinion is that after 58...Qe4 59.Qg1+ White wins in all lines. A pity. the World did not follow our recommendations and did not manage to find a path to the draw in the jungle of lines after the 58th move. Almost 45% of the team members considered the recommendations of GM School (58...Qf5) but the majority has chosen 58...Qe4. One could say-what's the difference where to move the queen to f5 or e4? Unfortunately there is the difference and it is a substantial difference. The correct 58...Qf5 ! could have resulted in a complicated game where a draw was the most probable result, and the "natural" 58...Qe4 (according to MS Zone expert Bacrot) is a final and complete disaster for Black."

Irina Krush
Irina Krush December 24 - ) is an American chess player. Born in Odessa USSR (now in Ukraine ), she is widely known for her series of chess training videos, the "Krushing Attacks" series. Krush gained a measure of fame both inside and outside chess circles during the well-publicized "Kasparov versus The World" chess competition in 1999. Garry Kasparov played the white pieces and the Internet public voted on moves for the black pieces, guided by the recommendations of Krush and three other young chess experts. On the tenth move, Krush suggested a stunning novelty, for which the World Team voted. Kasparov said later that he lost control of the game at that point, and wasn't sure whether he was winning or losing. In addition to discovering a new move, Krush displayed great patience, tact, and generosity while participating in the bulletin board discussion of the game. Due to her social skill and tireless work on behalf of the World Team, she gradually became the focus of all the team's analytical efforts. The analysis tree she maintained gained considerable authority, and the recommendations therein were chosen by the team for more than twenty consecutive moves. Even grandmasters rated considerably higher than her began making primary reference to her analysis tree. Thanks to Krush's efforts, the team worked in a more coordinated fashion than in any Internet game before or since. Unfortunately, on the 58th move, her recommendation was inexplicably delayed from appearing on the
