Yoder's voice and some of his songs on Best Sunday Heart reminded me of Dean Friedman and of Stephen Bishop. His way with music has many hints of Greg Greenway and Pierce Pettis (who seems to have become a big influence for young singer/songwriters). A great guitarist, Yoder starts this CD with a wonderful guitar solo Stevens Avenue N , a guitar playing that enriches all of his music but this CD needs to be listened to a lot before it will grow on the listener. This is Yoder's first CD, after two previously produced cassettes most likely sold at his shows. He is 31 years old and born in Virginia, now living and performing in Pittsburgh. He is also a teacher and plays guitar, mandolin, bass and saxophone. In this instantaneous world, Yoder's music asks for a lot of attention. It took eight listenings to this CD before I really started to enjoy it whereas normally it only takes me two listens. Best Sunday Heart takes a little more time and the listener will probably need to sit and read the lyrics along with listening to it in order to understand this highly literate CD.

If religion seems to be a running theme connecting any number of the more inspired moments on "Someday or Never," Brad Yoder's fourth album, it's not something he set out to do. In fact, he didn't even notice until later, after hearing everything in context. "It was not intentional," he says. "But on the other hand, it's stuff I've dealt with that runs through my brain. I think you sort of take whatever you grew up with, your own background, your own history, and make whatever you can out of that." What he's made of it here is an album that challenges people of faith to think about what Jesus would have done before his teachings were dumbed down and twisted by people with something to gain. In "Famous," Yoder sings, "I've got this theory now that religion has been demoted to just another channel on TV." And then there's "WWJD?," Yoder's finest hour, where he uses the Jesus of Scripture like a sword to cut through all the ... let's just call it politics. In the opening line, he spits out, "Jesus hung with hookers, hung with hustlers, not with cops/And he made wine from water so the party wouldn't stop/And Jesus, he loved everyone, just like his Mom and Dad/'Cause Jesus knew the difference between broken and plain bad."

89. Brad's Introduction To Ancient Coins
An introduction to ancient coins for those who know little about this area of coin collecting.

Brad's Introduction to Ancient Coins
Introduction Brief History Roman Coins Buying and Storage Fakes and Authentification ... Grading Coin of the Month Important update... There are efforts in Congress to pass laws that would effectively make collecting ancient coins illegal under the guise of preventing the sale of looted antiquities. These laws are overly broad and should be defeated. Please support The Ancient Coin Collectors Guild in their effort to inform people about these bills and to defeat them. While I am not a dealer, I still do have a few ancient coins for sale (really!) Also, while I haven't updated this site much in the past year or two, I'm still open to any questions you have. Might take me a while to reply, so please be paitent. Also feel free to suggest additional topics I should cover, or report any mistakes. Let me start by describing the first coin you see here. At left is the "obverse" or front of the coin. It depicts the head of Venus, the Roman goddess of beauty and love. At right is the "reverse" or back of the coin. It shows Victory riding a triga, or three-horse chariot. This coin has a chunk of metal missing where the horse's front legs are, but is otherwise is a very nice state of preservation. Below the chariot is an inscription reading C NAE BALB (shown at right, enlarged and digitally enhanced, though still more difficult to read than it is on the coin itself). This gives the name of the person who held the post of "moneyer" when this coin was minted. From historical information, we can find out that this was C. Naevius Balbus who held the office in Republican Rome in 79 BC. So we know when this coin was minted to the year, even though it is over two-thousand years old!

ONESIMUS REVOLUTION
We have a dream..... What if people like you and me came into places of influence and it was all for the Kingdom. We don't mean church buildings or anything like that but certainly dedicated to the things God seems to care about the most - I expect this would mean the poor - widows and orphans - the marginalized. Would it not spread God's glory radically? Would it not lead to a very different world?

Business Christianity
What does it look like to be wholeheartedly following Jesus in a place of work. I have been an employee but now as a business owner - what does it look like to manage an underperforming staff member? Would Jesus ever fire anyone? If so, how and when? Would he pursue excellence in management? What about vision? Many church leaders have visions for their churches which keep them awake at night due to excitement, urgency and exhiliration - I see the same rollercoaster heart in many business leaders. Many of their stories read like an advneture series - finding new markets, perseverance, failure, and then success and often benevolence out of that. Can a christian be 'Richard Branson like' in business vision without being carnally minded or temporal and materialistic?
