STEFFI GRAF BIOGRAPHY
Stefanie Maria Graf (born June 14, 1969), known as Steffi Graf, is the most famous German professional female tennis player, and is widely considered to be one of the top female tennis players of all-time.
Graf won 22 Grand Slam titles during her great career and in 1988 she became only the third woman to ever win the Grand Slam in tennis when she defeated Chris Evert in the Australian Open final, Natalia Zvereva in the French Open, Martina Navratilova at the Wimbledon championships and Gabriela Sabatini at the U.S. Open. Graf also defeated Sabatini to win the gold medal at the 1988 Olympics Games in Seoul, South Korea and complete the "golden" slam.
Altogether she won 107 WTA tournaments (only Navratilova (167) and Evert (157) are in front in the overall ranking) and was the tour's number 1 ranked player for 377 weeks, longer than any other player. Graf became the highest-earning female athlete of all times and won many awards such as the Olympic Medal of Honor or Athlete of the Century (category ballsports). Full Biography

Graf, queen of the lawn
By Bob Carter
Special to ESPN.com
"Steffi Graf's the best all-around player. Martina won more on fast courts and I won more on slow courts, but Steffi came along and won more titles on both surfaces," says Chris Evert on ESPN Classic's SportsCentury series. The beginning came neatly wrapped in irony, one teen tennis queen across the court from a future one. In 1982, Steffi Graf, a 13-year-old German and the youngest phenom to turn professional, played her first match against Tracy Austin, a 19-year-old American who had won the U.S. Open three years earlier. After winning 6-4, 6-0 in Filderstadt, Germany, Austin downplayed Graf's skills by saying there were "hundreds" like Graf back in the U.S., girls with game. The analysis turned into a monstrous mis-hit, for Graf wasn't like the other kids, before or after her, whether they were named Austin or Jaeger, Sabatini or Seles, Capriati or Hingis. Some started on the women's tour with more hype or endorsements than Graf. Some won big tournaments more quickly. None would match her achievements.

    Biography
German tennis phenomenon, winning 11 of 13 tournaments in 1987 to become the top ranking woman tennis player. Trained by her father-coach Peter Graf (born 6/18/1938) from the time she was four, she rose through German amateur ranks and turned pro at 13. At 15, she won an Olympic Gold Medal, and played at Wimbledon. Throughout her career, Graf won 22 Grand Slam singles titles, earned 107 tournament victories on the WTA Tour, won Wimbledon seven times, the French Open six times, the U.S. Open five times, the Australian Open four times, and spent a record 377 weeks as the number one player in the world. She also earned more than $20 million. Strong willed and a hard worker, she started with her first racket at four and within a year was beating eight-year-olds. A scandal erupted in April 1990 when her dad was slapped with a suit filed by 22-year-old model Nicole Meissner who claimed his paternity of her daughter born in January, 1990. Peter allegedly paid her and a boxing promoter Eberhard Thust $424,000 to withdraw the suit. They were arrested on 6/19/1990 for extortion. The five-month trial created a hysteria in Germany comparable to the Simpson trial in California. On 1/24/1997, Peter was convicted of tax evasion of $7.4 million on her earnings and sentenced to four years in jail.
