Author Blume, Judy Title Summer Sisters Plot Summary: Caitlin and Victoria become summer sisters when Caitlin first invites Victoria to come with her to her Vineyard house for the summer. For every summer after that throughout junior and senior high school, they share secrets and make memories about love, life, and growing up, in the house and on the island. They each fall in and out of love as they grow older from their early teenager years to after college years. Then, when Caitlin announces to Victoria that she is getting married, Victoria is forced to remember all of the times she and Caitlin shared in the Vineyard house.
Review: Through the whole story, both main characters, Caitlin and Victoria, stay the same person. They both grow up, and the feelings they have for people, places, and things that have happened (and will happen) change, but how they look at things and how they perceive things stay the same. Caitlin is emotional, spontaneous, flamboyant, spontaneous, and very open with her feelings. Victoria, on the other hand, is quiet, keeps to herself, and doesn't want the world to know how she feels. She doesn't often tell other people how she feels. Victoria is easier to relate to, and she thinks the way many teenagers today think. The characters get along well because of the "opposites attract" idea. I think both of the characters were very well described by the author. Judy Blume did a very good job making the characters come alive and making you feel what they feel throughout the story.

Judy Blume Boxed Set (Fudge-a-Mania, Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Superfudge) by Judy Blume Published by Random House Buy it online Judy Blume and her husband George Cooper meet me at a chic tea room on Vancouver's west side. You know the kind of place: elegant, understated, quiet jazz piped through discreetly hidden speakers and the staff are quiet, unobtrusive and look as though chocolate wouldn't melt in their mouths. I've done many interviews in this same tearoom and never been paid any attention: "please" and "thank you" and "would you like more hot water?" Authors even really well-known ones seldom attract much attention.
And then there's Judy Blume. Near the end of our interview, one of the wait staff breaks away from the others, "Excuse me," she says. "Miss Blume. I'm sorry to intrude. It's just that I wanted to say how much your books have meant to me over the years."
Blume takes both of the girl's hands in her own and shakes them gently. "Thank you," she says. "That means so much to me." And all hell breaks loose. The quiet understated staff comprised of mostly young women crowd around: the elegant facade quite forgotten. They are not frightening, you understand. They are not demanding. What they want is to give something even if the something is emotion back to the woman they feel has given them so much.
"This happens all the time," Blume confides later. "It's really nice. And they always want to give." An instamatic camera is produced and a photo is taken of Blume with a bevy of tea servers and entrepreneurs ranged around her adoringly.

Don Swaim Interviews
Audio Interview with Judy Blume
Judy Blume is the author of many famous children's books, such as Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret Superfudge and adult fiction, including Wifey and Smart Women. She talks with Don Swaim in this 1984 interview about the large amount of wisdom found within the pages of children's stories that can benefit both adults and children alike. The books she read as a child growing up in suburban New Jersey only told tales of happy families where everything always was fine. She wanted to read books that showed feelings and problems. She wanted characters she could identify with. These feelings returned when she became an adult. Some of her topics include divorce, puberty, sexuality, money, humor and the pain of life. "It’s real life," she said. But, not every adult was appreciative of her efforts. Several parent groups around the country have banned her books from school libraries claiming the content is too controversial. In one case in Colorado, however, a 12-year-old girl fought against the ban and won by getting students to sign a petition and attending to the school board in protest.
