2. Paul Bowles - So Mag Er Fallen / Let It Come Down - LESELUST-Rezension
Rezension von Daniela Ecker in der Leselust . Mit kurzer Leseprobe.

Paul Bowles - So mag er fallen
Originaltitel: Let It Come Down
Roman. Goldmann Verlag 2000
402 Seiten, ISBN: 3442463467

Paul Bowles
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Paul Frederic Bowles (December 30, 1910 – November 18, 1999) was an American expatriate composer author , and translator . Following a cultured middle-class upbringing in New York City , during which he displayed a talent for music and writing, Bowles pursued his education at the University of Virginia before making various trips to Paris in the 1930s. He studied music with Aaron Copland , and in New York wrote music for various theatrical productions, as well as other compositions. He achieved critical and popular success with the publication in 1949 of his first novel The Sheltering Sky , set in what was known as French North Africa , which he had visited in 1931. In 1947 Bowles settled in Tangier Morocco , and his wife, Jane Bowles followed in 1948. Except for winters spent in Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon) during the early 1950s, Tangier was his home for the next fifty-two years, the remainder of his life. Paul Bowles died in 1999 at the age of 88. His ashes are buried in Lakemont Cemetery in upstate New York.

Moroccan Sojourn - A Visit with Paul Bowles
Annette Solyst's visit with Paul Bowles at his home Immeuble Itesa, Tangier, Morocco October 1995
If someone is really, seriously interested in Morocco, they will sooner or later find out about Paul Bowles. For the ones who have never heard of Paul Bowles, here is a little summary: Born in NYC in 1910, he starts writing poetry and stories as a young boy. He runs off to Paris in his first year of college. / Returns to Paris a short while later and meets Gertrude Stein/ Studies music under Aaron Copland/The two visit Morocco together, on the recommendation of Gertrude Stein./Adventures and misadventures in Tangier and Fez./ He starts composing music, in particular he composes scores for plays like Tennessee Williams' "Glass Menagerie"/ Marries Jane Auer/ Continues to compose music/ Travels a lot and likes it/ Feels too tied to NYC due to the music and changes genres/ Writes " The Sheltering Sky" which is published in 1949 to some acclaim/ Moves to Tangier/ Tangier becomes his home, and to my knowledge he is still there.
At least, on the 9th of October 1995, he certainly was there. This is one of those stories I like to hear, and in this case tell, because it so makes the point that if you really want something, if it is important to you, it is bound to happen.

Bowles, Paul (1910-1999) Gay American expatriate composer, writer, and translator Paul Bowles liked to examine sexuality from a dispassionate perspective for its psychological suggestiveness. Bowles was born in New York on December 30, 1910. His father was a dentist who exhibited little warmth for his son; an inflexible man, he evoked responses of passive resistance and secrecy, characteristics that would mark Paul's life and writing. As a boy, Bowles had few friends and took refuge in fantasy writing. He matriculated at the University of Virginia, but academic life did not interest him, and he left for Paris abruptly in 1929. Although he soon returned to New York, from 1931 onward he would spend most of his life outside the United States. Sponsor Message.
