While supplies last. BY ANDREW LEONARD E ven when she's calling herself an "idiot," or otherwise indulging in cynical self-deprecation, Pat Cadigan still swaggers just like you'd hope a cyberpunk legend would. She's the kind of person who looks like she's wearing a leather jacket even when she isn't who you don't want to rile, but would love to party with. In short as one would expect from the author of the 1989 cyberpunk classic "Synners," probably the best science fiction novel with a rock 'n' roll theme she's a rocker. She's also got a sense of humor, which she uses for mocking self-aggrandizement. Over dinner at a sushi restaurant in Berkeley, she recounted the moment when "The X-Files'" Gillian Anderson, hosting a BBC TV show, introduced a new segment by looking dramatically at the camera and announcing, "And now, the queen of science fiction, Pat Cadigan."

Lou Anders (Editor)
July 2004
Mass Market Paperback
From Publishers Weekly
Taking a post-Internet, post-computerized world as its unifying theme, Anders's (The Making of Star Trek: First Contact) uneven anthology showcases 18 mostly male British authors (not all of whom will be familiar to U.S. readers), whose contributions range from disconnected, inconclusive pieces to delightful shaggy-dog stories. Most focus on sophisticated biological technologies, such as Charles Stross's provocative "Rogue Farm," about "multi-human beings" and Stephen Baxter's sad little tale about slave-drones and successive revolutions, "Conurbation 2473." Other established names include Michael Swanwick, David Brin, Rudy Rucker and S.M. Stirling. But the longest entry belongs to relatively obscure Brit John Meaney. In Meaney's entertaining novella, "The Swastika Bomb," bioform animals serve as tanks,... Lost in Space: Promised Land

Book Description Lost in Space Hopelessly lost in the trackless depths of interstellar space, the Jupiter Two, piloted by John and Maureen Robinson, is suddenly beamed aboard a starship the size of a small planet. Inside is a place beyond imagination where secret dreams can seemingly come true. Is this the Eden the Robinsons longed for when they first blasted off from a polluted, dying Earth?Or is it something more sinister? Are they honored guestsor helpless prisoners? The answer soon becomes clear as John and Maureen Robinson, their children, Penny, Will, and Judy, and their crewmates, the murderous stowaway Dr. Zachary Smith and swaggering fighter jock Don West, face their biggest challenge yet. One of today's most popular authors, award-winning "Queen of Cyberpunk" Pat Cadigan gives an exciting new spin to science fiction's most...

An Interview with Pat Cadigan
interviewed by Miss M. at the occasion of Virtual Futures 96 Datableed
Pat Cadigan is the author of Mindplayers , Synners and Fools ; the latter two are both winners of Britain's Arthur C. Clarke Award, she considers herself a Science Fiction Writer interested in the near future. PC: Hello World, this Pat Cadigan. I guess I could present myself as a Science Fiction Writer, I think this how I'm bets known. Last year I decided to abdicate being a female SF Writer and just be a SF Writer, for various reasons, because I decided that was too much segregation. I suppose, I like to think of myself as someone interested in the near future in a very substantial way. At first it was just for the sake of the work, I discovered that I liked writing about the near future, more than anything else. What it is with writers is that I think the best writing comes from writing your passion and what you're most interested in. Often I think this sort of semi mis-expressed as writing what you know, but with me it's write what you're interested in and what you want to know. I often choose subjects not because I know so much about them, but because I want to learn about them

Description
In Synners, the line between technology and humanity is hopelessly slim. A constant stream of new technology spawns crime before it hits the streets; the human mind and the external landscape have fused to the point where any encounter with reality is incidental.
Customer Reviews
Free SF Reader It is interesting to see the language Cadigan was using in this book, circa 1990 : war porn, food porn, etc., being used in exactly the same way now. A cyberpunk ahead of her time, for sure. Apart from that, an interesting tale of what happens when things go bad in a network sense, especially if you are too closely connected, particularly organically. While her books never blow you away, it seems, she is consistently good, and real. Like hot molten cliches oozing down a low-jack interface Yeah and if you thought the review's title was ridiculous...
