He has written A World Made of Fire V for Victor Tender Crazy in Alabama ... Gone for Good , and One Mississippi Childress grew up in Ohio Indiana Mississippi , and Louisiana . After graduation from The University of Alabama , where Childress was a member of the Mallet Assembly , in 1978, Childress was a reporter for The Birmingham News , Features Editor of Southern Living magazine, and Regional Editor of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Childress is the author of six novels:
  • A World Made of Fire (Knopf, 1984) V For Victor (Knopf, 1988) Tender (Harmony, 1990) Crazy in Alabama (Putnam, 1993) Gone for Good (Knopf, 1998) One Mississippi (July 2006, Little, Brown).

Childress was born in Monroeville to Roy and Helen Childress. The family moved around for several years before resettling in Clinton, Mississippi where he completed high school. He started at LSU, but transferred in 1975 to the University of Alabama After graduating in 1978, Childress was a reporter for The Birmingham News , Features Editor of Southern Living , and Regional Editor of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution . His articles and reviews have appeared in The New York Times Los Angeles Times The (London) Times San Francisco Chronicle , Saturday Review, Chicago Tribune Philadelphia Inquirer Travel and Leisure , and other national and international publications.

Childress' first novel A World Made of Fire was released by Knopf in 1984. It was followed four years later by V for Victor , and then, in 1990 by Tender , which became a Literary Guild and Doubleday Book Club selection and appeared on several "Ten Best of 1990" lists, earning a place on several bestseller lists that year.

Biography of Mark Childress

Mark Childress's life began in the town of Monroeville, Alabama, in 1957 where he was born to Roy and Mary Helen Childress. During his childhood, Mark and his family moved to a variety of states. Eventually, they returned to the South where he completed high school in Clinton, Mississippi. In 1974 and 1975, Childress attended Louisiana State University; but he transferred, and in 1978, he graduated from the University of Alabama. After graduation, Childress began his career as a journalist. First, he secured a job as a reporter for the Birmingham News . Next, Southern Living magazine made Childress Features Editor. Eventually, he decided to focus all of his time on being a writer. As a result, Mark Childress has written four fiction novels including: A World Made of Fire , V for Victor Tender (1990) , and
