Paperback
Book Description
The world's founders and leaders of Fractal Geometry describe how the science has developed in the ten years since the making of the ground-breaking TV documentary.
About the Author
Nigel Lesmoir-Gordon has published poems and short stories in the UK, the US, and France. He formed his first film production company in 1976, and worked for Donovan, Pink Floyd, 10cc, Joe Cocker, Wings, and Leo Sayer. Gordon Films UK was formed in 1995 to produce the award-winning television documentary "The Colours of Infinity". His first book was "Introducing Fractal Geometry". The SFWA Grand Masters
Frederik Pohl
Apr 2001 Paperback From Booklist The second anthology of short fiction by winners of the Grand Master Nebula Award offers work by Andre Norton, Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Alfred Bester, and Ray Bradbury. It is something of a mixed bag, because Norton wrote comparatively little short fiction and because, of Asimov's host of short pieces, the only major one included is "The Martian Way." On the other hand, Bester's stories haven't been reprinted nearly often enough, except for "Fondly Fahrenheit" (which reappears here). Furthermore, Clarke and Bradbury are represented by mixtures of well-known classics and superior but less well known pieces. Finally, in the separate author introductions, Grand Master Pohl cogently remarks on his peers. So although this may not be the most useful acquisition for collections possessing shelves of anthologies already,...

1 Explain why you chose the book
Well, it is simple. I chose the book because I was interested in the cover. I usually
like the science-fiction kind of books. I heard from Rogier that the book was quite
good, and I thought “This is great, I have to read a book and I actually like it”.
So it wasn’t difficult to find the book, the next step was to read it.
2 What is your opinion of the novel
This is the most interesting and biggest book I have ever read for English. The book
had everything to keep me reading. Usually I get bored and don’t like to read but this book kept me going like a train. I recall that I read eighty pages at one day, just to see what would happen. The writing-stile was pleasant and there was instant action when you would least expect it. Arthur C. Clarke has done a really good job writing this novel and he should write more of this stuff.

Genres
SCIENCE FICTION Clark is one of the patron saints of science fiction. He stands at the top with Heinlein, Asimov, Herbert and any other you can think of. He produced the bulk of his work in the 50's and 60's when the genre really came into it's own. Clark is most known for his book 2001: A Space Odessey ( which was written at the same time the movie was made, apparantly). You may even remember him from the TV show he had: Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World .(... I think that was the one with the glass skull - or was that Mr. Spock's show?) Enjoying a similar background as most SCI-FI writers of the era, Clark spent time in the military (RAF) as a radar specialist. Afterward, he enrolled in college and recieved a degree in mathematics and physics and went on to develop geostationary satellites, as well as postulated the concept of the space elevator. With a strong techinical background, you can safely assume that his writing is a bit entrenched in technology, whether it be made up or real. A curious feature of the 'made up' is that it is grounded in such a knowledgeable background that it tends to foretell the future quite eerily. On this account alone, it is worth reading his books and stories.

Lighthouse's Full Review: Clarke, Arthur C Doing an epinion on Arthur C. Clarke is like asking someone to design a skyscraper using toothpicks.
I started reading Clarke at a very early age because we lived out in the country and I had easier access to my parents' books then to libraries. My childhood was a heavy dosage of Clarke, Agatha Christie, and National Geographics.
I didn't actually read a Clarke novel until I was an adult, but as a child I devoured his short stories. To me they were the most wonderful creations on earth.
