The boy reaches the hospital, but does he find his father there? A Cheesy Quiz Part One

no . This is the most amazing twist in the novel. The bike trip has been mostly created through Adam's imagination. He is the actual patient in the hospital and the trip is riding his bike around on the hospital grounds. His family was part of the witness protection program and his mother has been killed by enemy agents. His father's whereabouts are unknown. And for the last three years Adam has been a patient at a private hospital where he has undergone questioning about his past, specifically about his father's knowledge in the case in which he testified. Look for A Cheesy Quiz: Part Two, where more of the novel is explored.
What does the boy discover about the motel he had hoped to stay in?

Robert Cormier His Books Other Information Other Web Sites I n 1991, Robert Cormier received the MAE Award. The committee cited his novels: The Chocolate War I Am the Cheese , and After the First Death He was born in Leominster, Massachusetts. Cormier says, “I was a skinny kid living in a ghetto-type neighborhood wanting the world to know that I existed.” When his own children were small, he worked as a newspaper reporter and wrote at night. He writes a story over and over until he is satisfied. “With each novel, I fill a shopping bag with material that has been rewritten.” He wants to make the story as true as possible, yet censors often dislike his books, and this surprises him. The teen years, explains Cormier, are not a “peppermint world of fun and frolic.” He tries to show the “strength of young adults—their resilience, their ability to absorb the blows teenage life delivers.” One time a woman who hated his books met Cormier and instead of finding a monster, she saw who he really was—an ordinary guy trying to be “one of the good guys, sometimes failing, but trying anyway.”

Customer Reviews
A Writing Teacher's Perspective Fine craftmanship is the hallmark for Robert Cormier's storytelling abilities. This book is different from his other works. Each short story begins with an introduction that focuses on a different concept for writing. He not only tells the story, the introduction tells how he came up with the story idea. For example, the introduction to the first story focuses on choosing your perspective when writing. The themes of the story are love and the agony of middle age. Mr. Cormier uses the short stories to model his craftmanship for other writers. If you are looking for his usual work, this book isn't like the others and you might want to keep looking. If you are looking for insight into the craftmanship of writing, this is a great book!

Robert Cormier
Robert Cormier was born on January 17, 1925, in Leominster, MA. Lucien Joseph and Irma Margaret (Collins) Cormier had eight children. Robert was their second. Lucien was a factory worker. They lived in French Hill, the French-Canadian section of Leominster, in a triple-decker. Like many families during the Depression, Cormier's family moved many times during his life but never out of French Hill. They moved frequently in order to afford rent during the Depression, and they also moved as the family grew. Even when he moved out on his own, he never lived farther than three miles from the house he was born in. Robert attended a private catholic school, St. Cecilia's Parochial School. His experiences at the school shaped his life in a few different ways. He first wrote a poem in sixth grade; a nun encouraged him to write. That was the first time he considered being a writer. When he was in eighth grade, he could see that his family's triple-decker on Laurel St. was on fire from the classroom window. The sister would not allow him to leave and check on his family until he had recited on the rosary. Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire. This incident caused him to have some bitter feelings toward the church for many years.

I am the cheese consists of two different stories which are told at the same time. The first story is about a boy who brings a package to his father in Rutterburg. The other story is based on the tapes of talk-sessions of a psychiatric patient which are written down. The two stories make up one story; the story of Adam Farmer.
Adam Farmer is a boy like every other boy, and he lives happily with his parents in a small village in Monument. He is an only child, and his parents are all the family he has. Adam's father has a secret drawer in his desk, that's always locked. At one day, Adam finds the key of the drawer and opens it. In the drawer are all the important forms and identity cards of the family, also the birth certificates. There's a closed envelope too. Adam hesitates if he shall open it or not. He decides to do it, and then he discovers something very strange: The envelope contains another birth certificate of Adam, but not with his real birthday on it, 14 February, but 14 July.
After that moment Adam becomes suspicious and he doesn't trust his parents anymore. Adam always had the feeling that there was something wrong with his parents, and now he really doesn't know what to think anymore. He starts spying on his parents, studying them whenever he can. When he listen into a telephone call of his mother to a friend of her, he finds out that she isn't just a friend of his mother, but his aunt.
