This is a labor of love that began several years ago when my husband inherited the "Cunningham bed" Rootsweb and Gencircles , a lady contacted me with the information that this John was her ancestor and that she was contacting me because she had letters that Grandpa David had written to her great-great-grandfather! How thrilled I was! At last a connection! She sent me copies of all the letters and a copy of a photograph of her great-great-grandfather and her great-grandfather. It was a copy of a picture that had been in Grandpa David's family bible! So I have decided to share this wonderful discovery with all of Hugh Whitfield Cunningham's descendants. Have a wonderful time reading the letters and let me hear from you!

"THE HOURS"
INTERVIEW WHO:

WHERE: Ritz-Carlton Hotel, SF, CA
HOW (you might know them):
Cunningham wrote the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1998 novel this film is based on. Hare probably best known for the stage play "The Blue Room," in which Nicole Kidman appeared on Broadway. He also wrote Louis Malle's "Damage" and directed the film "Strapless."
REVIEW LINK "The Hours"
LINKS for this film Official site at movies.yahoo.com at Rotten Tomatoes at Internet Movie Database Watch the trailer Novelist Michael Cunningham, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning "The Hours," and screenwriter David Hare, who adapted the book into a film, are an interestingly mismatched pair. Although clearly on the same wavelength creatively as evidenced by their joint enthusiasm for the story that connects them Hare is a rather proper British intellectual in his 50s, whereas 40-something American Cunningham has the well-dressed but roughshod-featured look of a action movie bad guy with piercing eyes and a wicked grin. At first glance he's hardly a fellow you'd imagine writing a century-spanning novel about how the lives of three women are deeply affected by Virginia Woolf's "Mrs. Dalloway." But when Cunningham speaks especially about Woolf herself it's with such a poetic passion that his emotional kinship with his characters radiates through his jagged facade.

Scholars Index The Hours by Michael Cunningham The Hours is both an homage to Virginia Woolf and very much its own creature. Even as Michael Cunningham brings his literary idol back to life, he intertwines her story with those of two more contemporary women. One gray suburban London morning in 1923, Woolf awakens from a dream that will soon lead to Mrs. Dalloway . In the present, on a beautiful June day in Greenwich Village, 52-year-old Clarissa Vaughan is planning a party for her oldest love, a poet dying of AIDS. And in Los Angeles in 1949, Laura Brown, pregnant and unsettled, does her best to prepare for her husband's birthday, but can't seem to stop reading Woolf. These women's lives are linked both by the 1925 novel and by the few precious moments of possibility each keeps returning to. Clarissa is to eventually realize: There's just this for consolation: an hour here or there when our lives seem, against all odds and expectations, to burst open and give us everything we've ever imagined.... Still, we cherish the city, the morning; we hope, more than anything, for more.

49. Michael Cunningham - Die Stunden / The Hours - LESELUST-Rezension
Roman ber die Entstehung von Virginia Woolfs Mrs. Dalloway . Rezension von Daniela Ecker.
http://www.die-leselust.de/buch/cunningham_michael_stunden.htm
Michael Cunningham - Die Stunden
Originaltitel: The Hours
Roman. Luchterhand Literaturverlag 2000
288 Seiten, ISBN: 3630870619

OT: "The Hours"
Aus dem Amerikanischen von Georg Schmidt
Luchterhand München 2000
304 S., 20,40 Euro

Hi, and welcome to my family.
I have been researching my "roots, branches and twigs" for a lot of years. I had no idea there were so many of us and so much information available.
I have visited and gotten information from State and Provencial Archives, City and Town Libraries, City and Town Halls, Newspaper Archives, School and Church records and numerous Family Members (who probably wish I'd disappear). There have been some stumbling blocks and disagreeing information, but I've learned a lot about my family and the history of the areas where they lived.
I hope to expand on this and if anyone out there has facts useful to me, please don't hesitate to forward.
