Customer Reviews: mind gripping The first thing that grabbed my attention was the title. Then I read the first paragraphs and I instantly felt that this is a book worth reading. Eggers gives his character justice and is mind gripping. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone who I know would appreciate more than just the story itself. Fantastic book - we should enundate "DC"with copies. A truly gripping tale, leading to an awareness of the tragedies in Sudan (and in our own country!) that would benefit all. Especially those decision makers in Washington DC. Fascinating, eye-opening story

    Et Tu, Beth?
Harper's Magazine , August 2000, p. 23. [The following quotations are from correspondence between Beth Eggers, Dave Eggers's older sister, and Gary Baum, who writes a column devoted to the Dave Eggers phenomenon on his webzine, My Manifesto www.aphrodigitaliac.com ). The selections appeared in Baum's April 17 column.] I am the sister who supposedly "helped out" while Dave "raised his little brother alone." Yeah right. I only picked him up from school every day, went to all the school events WITH Dave, although you'd never know it from reading all the reviews and the book. I took Chris to lacrosse practice, comic-book stores, stayed overnight at Dave's all the time because he was up all night in San Francisco doing his magazine. Dave used my journal to refresh his recollection about many thingsthat's why he thanked me in the acknowledgments and probably also because he felt guilty for misrepresenting things. I still don't have the journal back. No offer of royalties. But he did take me to Mexico with my brothers for Christmas, so I guess that's something. [Dave Eggers's response (including extracts from a "clarifying" email from Beth).]

    About Our Company.
    BY Yuk Ling Ho
About Us We're a fast-paced, goal-oriented, revenue-driven company with a need to succeed. For the past few years, we've been the market leader in asset monetization and management synergy. Our vision is to spread our unique brand of success to every corner of the globe. But it's our people who make all the difference. Last year, we were voted one of the top ten employers in our office park, and that's because there's nothing we value more than our dedicated employees. Truly, we heart them. But it's our innovation that makes all the difference. Innovation that makes ideas happen. Ideas for a better tomorrow. Today. About the About Page The About Us blurb was written by a team of our talented employees over a period of three months. For several hours each day, they were cloistered in the conference room, discussing PR strategies and various aspects of pop culture. Several dozen pizzas were ordered and consumed in the process. As soon as the wording was perfected, the passage was written on a paper towel and copy edited by Tim, our eager young intern (who is, sadly, no longer with us). The polished piece was then sent to our CEO for approval. Six months later, we were given the green light and Brian uploaded the finished product to our website this morning.

"You Shall Know Our Velocity" by Dave Eggers
Stop squawking about the money, the youth and the fame there's a real writer among us, and Dave Eggers' new novel proves it.
By Peter Kurth I don't think it's possible for anyone who writes for a living to be objective about Dave Eggers' second book and first novel "You Shall Know Our Velocity." As a writer, I can't be objective about Eggers at all, given the staggering, and to me somewhat heartbreaking, success of his bestselling memoir, "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius." There's no point in pretending that writers aren't envious. All I know is, if a book of mine ever got a paperback sale of $1.4 million and a few million more for the movie rights, I wouldn't be bellyaching about the way the press covered it, as Eggers so famously does. That's what makes you want to hate him. That and the money. There's too much Eggers in my head, is what I'm saying. I need relief. And, presto! that's what Eggers' new novel is about: headache relief.
