    Euclid lakefront plan unveiled
Published: Thursday, October 28, 2010 Tweet By Max Reinhart
    MReinhart@News-Herald.com
While the city of Euclid has taken steps in the past to develop its lakefront, it feels those steps are just now becoming strides.
The city's Growth, Planning and Development Committee, along with members of city council, met Wednesday to hear a presentation from JJR, the Madison, Wis.-based consulting firm that was hired to do a feasibility study and work on the engineering and design of the overall plan.
"The idea is to promote public access along the waterfront, creating a diverse waterfront that provides a wide range of uses, stabilizes the shoreline and restores the beaches, respects nature and also creates a community-wide amenity and regional destination and draw," said JJR associate Jason Stangland, who gave the presentation.
The plan involves development from Sims Park eastward to the future site of a marina, to be located along East 242nd Street. Construction of a fishing pier at Sims Park and better public access to the park are also in the works.

B.C.E. ), is often referred to as the "father of geometry." His most popular work, Elements , is thought to be one of the most successful textbooks in the history of mathematics. Within it, the properties of geometrical objects are deduced from a small set of axioms, establishing the axiomatic method of mathematics. Euclid thus imposed a logical organization on known mathematical truths, by the disciplined use of logic . Later philosophers adapted this methodology to their own fields. Although best-known for its exposition of geometry, the Elements also includes various results in number theory, such as the connection between perfect numbers and Mersenne primes, the proof of the infinitude of prime numbers, Euclid's lemma on factorization (which lead to the fundamental theorem of arithmetic, on uniqueness of prime factorizations), and the Euclidean algorithm for finding the greatest common divisor of two numbers.

Student-written biography focuses on the significance of euclid s Elements.
http://library.thinkquest.org/4116/History/euclid.htm
Born: About 365 BC in Alexandria, Egypt Died: About 300 BC Short Biography Euclid's Elements , a work on elementary geometry and other topics, exceeded other works of its time, which are now known only by indirect reference. The Elements begins with definitions, postulates, and axioms, including the famous fifth, or parallel, postulate that one and only one line can be drawn through a point parallel to a given line. Euclid's decision to make this postulate not demonstrable assumption led to Euclidean geometry. It was not until the 19th century that the fifth postulate was modified in order to develop non-Euclidean geometry. The Elements are divided into 13 books. The first 6 are on geometry; 7, 8 and 9 are on number theory; and book number 10 is on Eudoxus's theory of irrational numbers. Books 11, 12, and 13 all concern solid geometry, and end with a discussion of the properties of the five regular polyhedrons and proof that there can only be these five. Euclid's Elements are remarkable for the clarity with which the theorems and problems are selected and ordered. The propositions proceed logically and concisely, with very few assumptions.
Euclid is not known to have made any original discoveries, and the Elements is based on the work of the people before him, like Exodus, Thales, Hippocrates, and Pythagoras. It is accepted that some of the proofs are his own and that the excellent arrangement is his. Over a thousand editions of the work have been published since the first printed version of 1482. Euclid's other works include

Euclid of Alexandria is the most prominent mathematician of antiquity best known for his treatise on mathematics The Elements . The long lasting nature of The Elements must make Euclid the leading mathematics teacher of all time. However little is known of Euclid's life except that he taught at Alexandria in Egypt. Proclus , the last major Greek philosopher, who lived around 450 AD wrote (see [ ] or [ ] or many other sources):- Not much younger than these pupils of Plato is Euclid, who put together the "Elements", arranging in order many of Eudoxus 's theorems, perfecting many of Theaetetus 's, and also bringing to irrefutable demonstration the things which had been only loosely proved by his predecessors. This man lived in the time of the first Ptolemy; for Archimedes , who followed closely upon the first Ptolemy makes mention of Euclid, and further they say that Ptolemy once asked him if there were a shorted way to study geometry than the Elements, to which he replied that there was no royal road to geometry. He is therefore younger than Plato 's circle, but older than
