Customer Reviews: 100 of the World's Greatest Mysteries 100 of the World's Greatest Mysteries is a good book for those who want to know trivia for Jeopardy or those who want some interesting, new dinner table conversation. E. Randall Floyd incorporates many of the world's mysteries, with some being more well-known than others, into one colorful book. Although some of the tales did not have lots of detail, most of the tales were pleasantly unusual and had enough details to keep me satiated. I especially liked the stories about the long-lost cities or empires. Once again, I wish that there was more concrete evidence for some of these tales. However, this book is not a bad collection and worth checking out in the library. Good Subject Matter, Poor Author

    James Widener Ray

The Seattle Museum of The Mysteries was recently bequeathed the private book collection
of James Widener Ray founder of the Raynier Institute and Foundation. James Ray passed away in early October of 2005 was himself a supporter of the humanities, libraries and the arts. He himself was a very talented artist and musician. He was a person who could talk with anyone.
The scope of the book collection which doubles the size of the current museum library includes books on Freemasonry, Ancient Religion, Magic, Psychology , and many other historical and rare books. The museum also received his personal tarot card collection of over twenty decks collected from around the world which will be on display. James Ray has been a friend of the Museum for a number of years and helped support the museumšs conference in 2003 as well as funding the initial expansion of the museumšs Library.
James Rayšs family had a history of protecting books. One of Jamesš relatives in the early part of the century, George Widener helped finance the Titanic and he and his son Harry perished in the sinking. Sources indicate a story where Harry was about to board a lifeboat when he ran back to save a rare book he had just purchased called the works of Francis Bacon. Georgešs wife, Eleanor Estes Widener dedicated and founded the Widener Library at Harvard University which began from the book collection of Harry Widener. James Ray related to his friends that he believed one of his

Built in 1745 on 15,000 acres by Colonel Thomas Tabb and his wife, Rebecca Booker, the Virginian mansion had fallen into ruin when it was purchased in 1964 by Cary and Gibson McConnaughey. Gibson remembered visiting and playing at the huge house when she was a girl, and her grandmother, Harriet Mason Jefferson, lived there. The home hadn’t been in the family for the last fifty years.
The McConnaugheys spent a great deal of time, money, and effort in the renovation of the huge estate which included a moat, massive chimneys, gardens, slave quarters, and outbuildings. There are two graveyards on the land, one for the family and one for the slaves.
Cary, Gibson, their children, and two dogs, moved into the antebellum home in 1965. Four years after that, an elderly cousin sent the McConnaugheys a gift. The cousin told the family that it was a pastel painting of a young woman, who was supposed to have been a distant relative. Her name was Florence Wright. The portrait had been done in a summer house in Massachusetts. Before the painting could be completed, the 24 year old girl died suddenly from a massive stroke while playing the piano. Florence had never visited Haw Branch.
When the McConnaugheys opened the crate containing the painting, they were surprised to find that charcoal, rather than pastels had been used to create the piece.
