Diogenes 1997 410 Seiten, ISBN: 3257230931 Ganz England ist empört - Sid Halley wagt es, den angesehenen Fernsehstar Ellis Quint, der noch dazu ein alter Freund von ihm aus aktiven Renntagen ist, eines ungeheuerlichen Verbrechens zu beschuldigen: er hätte mehreren Pferden den rechten Vorderhuf abgeschnitten. So groß das Entsetzen über diese Tat auch im ganzen Land ist - keiner glaubt daran, daß ausgerechnet Ellis sie begangen haben soll. Sid sieht sich einer Hetzkampagne in der Zeitung "The Pump" ausgesetzt, der sich sämtliche andere Medien anschließen. Drohanrufe, Schmähungen - damit hat er schon zu leben gelernt. Doch am ersten Verhandlungstag wird ihm aufgelauert - und nur mit Mühe kann er verhindern, von Ellis Vater Gordon totgeschlagen zu werden. Begonnen hatte seine Suche, weil er von Linda Fern. Diogenes 1998 363 Seiten, ISBN: 3257229879 Schon am ersten Morgen seines dreiwöchigen Urlaubs erhält Gene Hawkins einen Anruf seines Chefs Keebles - Familienausflug auf der Themse. Sehr ungewöhnlich, das findet auch die halberwachsene Tochter Lynnie, daß Keebles dazu einen Mitarbeiter einlädt. Noch ein Mann ist mit von der Partie - Dave Teller. Ihm wurde vor einigen Tagen ein wertvoller Zuchthengst, den er gerade gekauft hatte, beim Heimtransport gestohlen. Und Gene, der ohnehin mit seinem Urlaub nichts Rechtes anzufangen weiß, den Selbstmordgedanken plagen, soll ihn wiederfinden. Ein wenig verlockender Vorschlag, den er dann auch ablehnt. Oktober 1920 als Richard Stanley Francis in Pembrokeshire, Südwales, geboren. What is most interesting about the author is that he was a champion jockey for years who turned writing into an award-winning career. These aren't my-life-as-a-jock-as-told-to books; these are interesting mysteries that mostly center on the horse-racing world in England, but occasionally feature a character in a different walk of life. His heroes often are beaten up, either because of their horse-racing careers or because they've stumbled into someone's scheme. So there's a lot of working through the pain, hiding the pain, etc., that will appeal to some while wear a little thin on others. His introspective characters range in age from teenager to middle-age. The violence is usually important to the story and to the character's development. There isn't as much violence for the sake of violence as we see in some fictional work.
