Robert A. Heinlein
the universe as fiction Have you seen our weblog or our monthly book review? Robert A. Heinlein is sometimes referred to as the Master by his fans, and the title is only deserved. Heinlein's career began during the so-called Golden Age of Science Fiction in the 1940's and continued until his death some four decades later. Moreover, even the more dated of his books are still quite readable. He's best known for his 1960's work Stranger in a Strange Land , and through that book and others has been remarkably influential. To him we owe the words "grok" and "waldo", the latter being a remote manipulator used to isolate operators from dangerous environments. He was the first author to self-consciously write a series of otherwise unrelated science fiction stories taking place in a common future; this was his Future History. If he wasn't the first to come up with the idea of powered battle armor, his description of it in Starship Troopers has become one of the standard props of space opera, right alongside Faster-Than-Light travel and anti-gravity.

All articles written by Serolynne Influence of the Science Fiction Writings of Robert A. Heinlein on Polyamory
By Cherie L. Ve Ard, March 21, 2005 The concept behind polyamory, or the lifestyle of openly and honestly loving more than one person at a time, has been around for much longer than the word itself. But with the advent of the internet and a term to draw people together, polyamory has become a movement of its own. The Ravenheart family, who formed a ‘nest’ and a church based on the writings of Robert A. Heinlein, are frequently credited with coining the term ‘polyamorous’. Because a word was created, people of like minds are now able to partake in a community that has resulted from the polyamory movement. Even today, more than 40 years after the influential works of Heinlein were published, people still point to reading Heinlein’s science fiction writings as the catalyst that brought them to exploring polyamorous lifestyles. Robert A. Heinlein is a recognized science fiction writer, who wrote short stories, novellas and novels from 1939 until 1987 (Samuelson 1164). His writings often questioned various social and political norms.

What creature were the survival students warned against in "Tunnel in the Sky"? Robert A. Heinlein's Life and Work

stobor . The stubor was fictional, a ploy to keep the students alert during the survival test. The students, after the nova kept them on the exercise planet longer than expected, assigned the name stubor to an animal they formerly called "dopey joes" when the creatures became suddenly vicious. For the last 25 years or so, Stranger In a Strange Land has been the book that I've re-read more than any other book. I have acquired several copies with different covers. I jokingly told my brother that I should feature them on a web site and he said "Why not?" So...... this site is not designed to delve deeply into the meaning behind the book, but to show some of the different covers that have been published. With one exception, the covers shown are scanned from copies of books that I own, so they are a little bent, a little torn, a little dog-eared. This is not a comprehensive study, nor do I claim that the information I present is entirely accurate. I have tried to differentiate between fact and speculation. Please e-mail me if you have any additional information regarding these covers that you think might be interesting.
