What is Machado-Joseph Disease?
The clinical manifestations of MJD can be highly variable, even among affected persons in the same family. This wide range in symptoms reflects the particular type of mutation that causes MJD: a repeat expansion in the DNA code that varies in size among affected persons. The longer the expansion, typically the more severe the disease. In other words, longer repeat expansions tend to cause disease that begins earlier in life and shows a broader range of neurological symptoms. In most individuals with MJD, symptoms typically begin in the third to fifth decade of life but can start as early as young childhood or as late as 70 years of age. MJD is a progressive disease, meaning that symptoms worsen with time. Life expectancy ranges from the mid-30s for those with the most severe forms of early onset MJD to a nearly normal life expectancy for those with mild, late onset forms. The cause of death for those who die early from the disease is often aspiration pneumonia.

I thought, now that Joe has reached adulthood, that redesigning the whole page was a good way to go. It took me a while to decide on the format. I may continually still tweek it.
I may create an additional separate page in the future with my own thoughts about Joe, fandom, and the larger context of everything, the world, growing up, innocence lost, innocence found, etc.You know, really light stuff. <g> All of the info that was in the previous site continues here of course, with all the updates. However, as this is also my own site about Joe I might create this extra "personal thoughts" page for various reasons. It would be a very personal look at what Joe means to me and the larger context of my fandom with the world we live in. After all, this is what the internet is forto sound off and share our thoughts and feelings with the worldnot an easy task by any means. We'll see.
With that thought in mind, I still want to say "thank you" to Joe for inspiring me with his amazing performances and for being a unique, down-to-earth, nice, caring (from what I can tell!) person. I wish him the best of luck in whatever he does, he deserves it! I also hope he is happy, healthy & safe in everything he does! :) And if you are visiting this site, I want to thank YOU for your interest in and supporting Joseph Cross! :)

THE PURSUIT AND CAPTURE OF CHIEF JOSEPH By CHARLES ERSKINE SCOTT WOOD
The battle in White Bird Canyon was the first armed conflict of the Nez Perce War. I helped bury the dead in that canyon. The next clash was the two-day battle on the north fork of the Clearwater, July 11 and 12, 1877. Then Chief Joseph's retreat through the Lolo Pass began, only to end at Bear Paw Mountain, Montana, within about thirty miles of the British line and safety. (Joseph could easily have made his escape by pushing his march a little further, but, as General Howard anticipated, he kept his eye on our rate of progress and when we slowed down, he did the same.) If the battle of the Clearwater is considered as the start and the surrender at Bear Paw Mountain as the finish, General Howard and I were the only two persons who were in the Nez Perce campaign from beginning to end. Some joined us later, and the entire command was stopped by order a day's journey from the scene of the surrender. Of the small detachment with which Howard pushed on to find Miles, he and I were the only ones who had participated in the earlier part of the campaign. And now I am the only survivor of the little group which stood on the rolling hilltop at Snake Creek and watched Joseph come up to surrender. Therefore I feel it is somewhat of an obligation for me to give my own experiences in the Nez Perce War.

Joseph of Arimathea
Joseph of Arimathea was a wealthy disciple of Jesus, who, according to the book of Matthew 27:57-60, asked Pontius Pilate for permission to take Jesus' dead body in order to prepare it for burial. He also provided the tomb where the crucified Lord was laid until his Resurrection. Joseph is mentioned in a few times in parallel passages in Mark, Luke and John, but nothing further is heard about his later activities. And did those feet, in ancient time,
Walk upon England's mountains green?
It was only natural, then, that Joseph should have been chosen for the first mission to Britain, and appropriate that he should come first to Glastonbury, that gravitational center for legendary activity in the West Country. Local legend has it that Joseph sailed around Land's End and headed for his old lead mining haunts. Here his boat ran ashore in the Glastonbury Marshes and, together with his followers, he climbed a nearby hill to survey the surrounding land. Having brought with him a staff grown from Christ's Holy Crown of Thorns, he thrust it into the ground and announced that he and his twelve companions were "Weary All". The thorn staff immediately took miraculous root, and it can be seen there still on Wearyall Hill. Joseph met with the local ruler, Arviragus , and soon secured himself twelve hides of land at Glastonbury on which to build the first monastery in Britain. From here he became the country's evangelist.

Joseph of Arimathea is mentioned in several New testament gospels and also in what are called the books of the Apocrypha or Pseudepigrapha; these are Jewish and Christian biblical writings not included in some versions of the Bible. They include the Book of Jubilees, the Psalms of Solomon, the Fourth Book of Maccabees, the Book of Enoch, the Fourth Book of Ezra and the Apocalypse of Baruch. " As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus." - Matthew 27:57 '( Joseph ) had not consented to the counsel and deed of them; he was of Arimathea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.' - Luke 23 51. 'And after this Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. ' - John 19 38 Joseph of Arimathea was a highly respected Jewish councillor, a member of the Sanhedrin, the ruling council of the Judaic community under the Romans. He was a secret disciple of Jesus who took no part in Jesus condemnation. Joseph seems to have done his utmost to persuade Pilate to speed the release of the body of Jesus. One source seems to suggest that a large bribe was paid by the wealthy Joseph to expedite matters. This is quite possible. The Bishop of Antioch writing in 180 AD quoted from the Apocryphal 'Gospel of Peter' that Joseph of Arimathea was a close friend of Pontius Pilate.
