Date of Birth: September 21, 1947 Mother: Nellie Ruth Pillsbury Father: Donald King Brother: David King, adopted in 1945, born 1945 Place of Birth: Portland, Maine Wife: Tabitha Spruce Marriage Date: Children: Owen Stephen King was born in Portland, Maine in 1947. He and his older brother, David, were raised primarily by his mother after his father left for a pack of cigarettes and never returned. Stephen's childhood was spent living between Fort Wayne, Indiana, where his father's family lived, and Massachusetts and Maine with his mother and her family. Eventually, Stephen and David settled with their mother in Durham Maine, where the boys attended school. King graduated high school in 1966 and pursued a Bachelors of Science degree in English at the University of Maine at Orono. While a student, he met his future wife, Tabitha Spruce, among the shelves of the Folger Campus Library, where both worked as students. King graduated from the University in 1970, and married Tabitha one year later. King initially was unable to find placement as a teacher, so he and Tabitha lived off his earnings as a laborer at an industrial laundry, and her student loans and savings. Occasionally they would receive a boost from one of his short stories that had been published in various men's magazines. Many of these stories were later compiled into the NIGHT SHIFT collection.

    The Stand (TV miniseries)
From Wikiquote (Redirected from The Stand (miniseries) Jump to: navigation search The Stand is a television miniseries , first broadcast in 1994, based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King , who also wrote the teleplay. It was directed by Mick Garris The miniseries version takes place in four parts, grouping four major themes of the original story. "The Plague" describes a lethal engineered flu that devastates the U.S. population, leaving only a smattering of people around the country. "The Dreams" explores these survivors' attempts to regroup, led by mysterious, opposing dreams of an old woman in Nebraska and a terrifying man in the West. "The Betrayal" shows the tentative rebuilding of civilization in Colorado, interrupted by a tragic betrayal. "The Stand" follows four of the survivors as they journey to make their stand against Randall Flagg , author King's archetypal man of evil.

    97. Stephen King's Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger - Book Collecting And The Dark King
Information on the Dark Tower series written by Stephen King. Includes a brief intro into the series.
    http://www.cdickens.com/articles/gunsl.htm
Stephen King's Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger From King Arthur's search for the Holy Grail to J. R. R. Tolkien's LORD OF THE RINGS, the subject of a quest has proven to be fertile ground for the growth of epic stories. With THE GUNSLINGER, Stephen King has staked his territory and planted his seeds. THE GUNSLINGER appeared without fanfare in 1982 in a small print-run of 10,000 copies. Marketed through mail-order and specialty shops (such as comic-book stores), the book's initial printing quickly sold out before the general public even knew it existed. It wasn't until THE DARK TOWER I: THE GUNSLINGER began to be listed in King's other books that the demand for the book began, and it has continued unabated ever since. A second printing of 10,000 copies, done in 1984, has not come close to satisfying the demand. THE GUNSLINGER represents a true departure for King in subject matter and style. It relates the story of Roland, the last knight-errant in a post-apocalyptic future. Although never stated, this future world is probably Earth long after the events related in THE STAND. In the story, the world is coming apart at the seams and the Dark Tower stands at the nexus of the difficulties. Roland's quest to find the Tower and somehow heal the wrong that exists there is the basic plot that drives this tale which features some of the best story-telling and characterization of King's career. And this is just the beginning. THE DARK TOWER is projected to include six to eight volumes, three of which have already appeared. THE GUNSLINGER was followed in 1987 with THE DRAWING OF THE THREE and in 1991 with THE WASTE LANDS, the latter two books having only one hardcover printing each. The next book in the series, WIZARD IN GLASS, was expected in 1997. With King's collectibility and the built-in growth potential inherent in a popular on-going story line, THE DARK TOWER series is a valuable addition to any collection, and THE GUNSLINGER is the best place to start.
